Mean Girls was an odd performance for me. Didn’t interest me at all and was excited for the show... C+
Spongebob was fine, but I don’t find that number to really be a big wow... B-
My Fair Lady was nice B+
Frozen I thought did exactly as they should to sell tickets, and Caissie was thrilling especially with the option up. A
Carousel’s choreography was stunning. A-
Once on this Island was thrilling, Alex amazed. A+
Bands Visit is a show I knew little about... the song didn’t really grab me. I’m sure in the context of the show it’s beautiful... but for me it was a B

Did she really?!?!?"
Went back and re-watched today and.... yeah.... yeah this looks like a thing. She might have said something else similar but the look on the face of the guy next to her would line up with that being what she says. Wow. I love when the camera catches things like this. Would have loved to catch the reaction when they won now.

None of you were sitting next to her to hear what she actually said and I doubt you guys know how to read lips, so it seems you see what to want to see.
Also does anyone remember the tweets of the cast of Frozen freaking out backstage one night due to Cassie doing something new and amazing vocally? I guess we know what I sounded like now.

Karmas a bitch x
I just rewatched it and she says "AMAZING", definitely not "big deal". You all need to learn how to read lips better - karma's going to come for you!! :P

I haven't even seen it, I was replying to the person who had.

This "Big Deal" vs "Amazing" conversation sounds like the BWW version of Yanny or Laurel.

There were plenty of viewers when Hamilton was up for awards. I agree with Scotty about popular music. It's not like I think everything on Broadway should be trap or electronic but my disappointment with Mean Girls is that it could have so easily been a pastiche of more popular modern genres instead of whatever cacophony of noises that was in their Tony performance. A Meghan Trainor/Alessia Cara/Daya sort of sound would have been totally fine for Mean Girls and not stretched too far from contemporary musical theater. I hope Sara Bareilles continues writing for the theater because I thought she did great work blending her own style with traditional theater with Waitress."
Ah, Vintage Snarker, you old charmer. I know that you're just a softy inside. You're not one of those people who prevent 10,000 lurkers from gathering the courage to make their first post.
Yes, I know that Steven Reineke is a happily married gay man, and that he refers to his husband in his program bio. You think that this upsets me? I've been a subscriber for three years, and I met him and got to chat at the Pop's after concert party. I also got to chat for about 30 seconds with Lea Salonga, which was cool. I complimented her on the song that she had sung unamplified.
But I have learned my lesson today. This is your territory and that subject is not to be brought up in any context by an outsider. I won't touch it again.
But this really was meant to be about the Tony Awards program and being upset that no one watches it.
During the close-ups of I Could Have Danced All Night, you can see the mic IN her hair at the centre of her forehead. It's much more concealed than usual.

If you search "Tony Awards 2018" on Facebook, and then select videos they should all be there. I watched the MFL one last night, and am planning on watching the others later.
disneybroadwayfan22, by and large, I agree with your thoughts on the ceremony. My main gripe was with Shaloub and Stachel. Both were terrific with what they had, but it wasn't very much in comparison to their fellow nominees. Hadden-Paton, Slater, and Henry all did phenomenal work with significantly larger roles. Not to discount anything they did. I am thrilled that Lenk won, she was magnificent.
I did not realize that the choice was made to create Cagelle-like characters for the "Get Me to the Church on Time" number from My Fair Lady. I'm all for inclusion in the theater, but those characters seemed forced and out-of-place.
Perhaps if they were costumed more shabbily, or "make-shift" (like the sailors in "Honey Bun" from South Pacific), I could find them believable for what I think the intention might be (typical pub regulars poking some fun during a stag party), but as depicted, I found them incongruous to the time and place of the scene.
I’ve rewatched the performance clips a few times since Sunday and my take on them has evolved over time. For example, I thought that The Band’s Visit performance was a bit of a letdown during the ceremony; I think I spent most of it reading the comments in this thread. However, since then, I’ve been mezmerized by the beauty of the song and the power of small gestures and facial expressions. Can’t wait to experience the moment live in July. (And yes, I even spent a little time with Mr Google to find out who the hell was Umm Kulthum.)
I re-watched the My Fair Lady performance to see if I could find the mic on Lauren Ambrose, and she is wearing a mic. It's hidden in her hair, but you can see it if you look carefully enough.
As much as I am enjoying watching the nut jobs losing their **** over all The Bands Visit's wins, I do wish Yerma had've been eligible as it would've been even more fun watching all the Potter fans go nuts...
