I'll be seeing Blonde in a couple of weeks, but one thing has been bugging me forever...
"Ireland."
Everyone makes reference to it, but having only seen the movie and not yet the show, I cannot for the life of me figure out how a song with that title and Riverdancing would fit into the show. I'm sure it's great, I'm just a bit perplexed. Anyone mind sharing? I don't mind spoilers.
Paulette has a thing for Irish men. Ireland is all about that, and her fantasys. During the LB Remix, Paulette runs into Kyle, who reveals he is Irish. From there, there is a huge riverdanceish number and it is hsyterical.

If that's true JJJ about there being "a million other things to do" before giving Ireland and Orfeh a proper ending, that's a shame and goes hand in hand with why the things that are so wrong with LB are, well, wrong. The obviously poor judgement calls are evident throughout the production. The fact that they made one of the best singers around scream some stupid line off stage (as an ENDING) for the whole run of this show so far (up until about a week ago), is almost surreal.
I know everyone is saying this is a "critic proof hit" and predicting heaps of award nominations and even if any of that comes true, it still doesn't make it a great show, with great direction or more importantly, a strong lead. Btw, being on stage the whole time doesn't make someone "great", it just gives the audience more opportunities to see the obvious flaws and does not warrant a Tony nomination.
Ireland HAS an ending now, she sings it, she has since Wednesday.
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

You're right, it doesn't, but that also does not mean that if you are on stage the entire time that you don't deserve one. Laura is doing an incredible job in this role and I really think she does deserve a Tony nom. NOT because she is onstage a lot, but because her performance is wonderful! She deserves it in my opinion.
Ruprecht, while I don't share your opinion of the show as a whole, -- especially about LBB, who I think is great as Elle -- I definitely agree that they waited way too long to fix the Ireland "ending," which is what I was getting at in my original post.
Saw the show in San Francisco back in February -- glad to hear that the ending of 'Ireland' was fixed. Thought it was a real odd choice to not have Orfeh hit that last note.
Does anyone know what other changes have been made since San Francisco and in previews in NYC? It would be interesting to hear.
I lean more toward what ruprecht has been saying about Legally Blonde: The Musical -- it's pretty good, but it's not great.
THe major changes I have noticed are that they changed "Love and War" to "Positive", have continually changed teh "Legally Blonde" ballad, adding new verses, changed the end of "Ireland", have added small bits of dialogue, done a few costume changes...that's what I remember off the top of my head.

Because I have a funny stage door story. So I went to see the show the first week of May and when I went to stage door it was really awkward because there weren't really any fans just a bunch of friends of the cast. So I felt really wierd being the only one going "um, can you sign my playbill".
So anyway, Orfeh is like 2 feet away chatting it up with someone and Leslie is right there talking too and Kate Shindle comes out with her sharpie ready to sign playbills. But, the two other fans there wanted a picture so there was this camera/playbill/sharpie confusion and when they finally figured it out Kate goes "Sorry, I'm like a crazy crackwhore tonight"
I've never laughed so hard.
And Laura Bell was adorable when she finally came out. Loved it.
Didn't get in there for Best Musical, but nominated for Best Book, Best Score, Best Actress- Laura Bell Bundy (!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Beast Featured Actress- Orfeh, Best Featured Actor- Christian Borle (!), Best Costume Deisign, and Best Choreography.
For anyone who's interested, there's an advertisement spread for Vavoom hair products featuring Orfeh, Laura Bell & Kate Shindel in the June issue of Elle magazine. It's a few pages long. :)
i saw the matinee yesterday and WOW. it was so good! i can't believe i haven't seen it more than once! i enjoyed every single minute of it, i can confidently say and everyone in the audience around me was enjoying it too...the cast was spot-on, the dogs were adorable, and the sets were vibrant and interesting. i am now, officially, a legally blonde fan!
Omigod! Omigod you guys! Legally Blonde is great, and that's no lie! If there is a best show, then Blonde surely takes that prize! What a great surprise!
Great sets, great shoes Great costuming. The lead actress is cute and Christian Borle's a king. When Orfeh hits the high notes, then all of New York does drop everything. Give 'em one Tony!
Omigod! Omigod you guys! Blone deserved the choreography prize. Spring Awakening didn't deserve it. Jerry Mitchell has some genious eyes. What a sad surprise!
Omigod! This is dumb, you guys! Just give Blonde atleast one prize. Bell Bundy cannot win because She's in their with the queen, you know. Oh, no! Oh, no! Omigod! Omigod! Omigod! ZERO!
