It was, in my opinion. Did you see the original production because I certainly did and while Bernadette's is still gorgeous, there was something special about Annaleigh's.
I thought Ashford's Marie was leagues better than her Dot, which I also enjoyed.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Oy. "Definitive". Please. Annaleigh Ashford's rendition is "definitive"....for Annaleigh Ashford. Much as Bernadette's is "definitive for Bernadette. In my opinion.
Meanwhile, that 'Move On' clip is gorgeous. Big, happy smile on my face. Thank you for posting.
You think, what do you want?
You think, make a decision...

Just hearing "move on" today brought a flood of wonderful memories and I'm so grateful that they recorded this. Will most definitely be waiting at 12:01 tonight to download :)"
What am I missing? What does liking this show have to do with being an ALW fan?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
And again.....can anyone give me a link on Amazon? I cannot locate.

I love how triggered people get here when the word "definitive" is used. I should be allowed to have an opinion on here without someone coming along and sh*tting on it. I still think the definitive performance of Dot/Marie is Bernadette's, but I really do think that there was something really special about Annaleigh's Marie and her performance of Children and Art. In fact I actually really thought that the second act of this production was better performed than the original was. I just preferred how this production interpreted the material of that act.
Damn, some of you are so smug, it hurts. If someone thought Annaleigh's rendition of the dog is "definitive," why can't you let them? It's all hyperbole anyway since there is no such thing as a definitive rendition of anything. It's all opinion. No need to write stupid, petty "LOL"s. Get over yourself.
Anyway, I'm over the moon that this is being released tomorrow. I've been dying for a clear, full recording of this score. The original - even remastered - often sounds muddy in the especially layered sections and the echo during the quieter moments is irritating. "Move On" sounds as lovely as it did in the theater. Very much looking forward to tomorrow.

Don't want to get into a whole debate about this, but FWIW I find that most of the time it's millennials getting mad at people of older generations misusing the word "triggered." I don't know how old GeorgeandDot, but based solely on their use of that word, I would have put money on them being older.
Don't worry Jordan - I also did think Ashford (is that her name?) was a little bit plain - especially next to Jake and especially considering Bernadette in the role. I will admit there was some nice numerous moments in her second act, but the pairing still seemed a little off to me. I kind of wish they had found someone else.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Duh. Now I see it.....I think my brain just wasnt' computing the text, and shut off without a pix. Facepalm.
Thanks, Gypsy. BAER about myself.

Was just trying to make the point that I'm not a typical Sondheim fan, so I'm not one of these people who will enter into the debates of Bernadette vs Annaleigh. Was just blown away by the story, the score and what seemed to be amazing performances.
