I like Kelli O'Hara as well. I gained a lot of respect for her in The Pajama Game. I saw it early on and it was stiff, really stiff. By the second time I saw it, you could see that she and Harry Connick Jr. were working much better together and she'd gotten some of the stiffness out of most of the scenes. She did a great job in that, IMO.
Anybody else dreading the performance of Grease? I almost fell out of my chair when I read that Grease was nominated for best revival. It wasn't just bad, it was horrid, IMO. Probably the worst show I saw the past year, I thought...
South Pacific was a bit of a snoozefest. not really moved to see it. I mean lovely singing of a lovely score, but that presentation didn't comvince me it was as much a "must-see" as some say.
Stone me, but I wasn't that impressed with the South Pacific medley. Not to say the performers weren't great (Szot has a terrific voice, and Kelli was adorable) but the performance underwhelmed me. Maybe if it wasn't a medley I'd like it better.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Well that is what South Pacific really is. A beautiful story inside some timeless songs... with a great cast currently on Broadway. I liked the medley because it gave the opportunity to showcase all of the Tony nominees. If they had only chosen one song, it couldn't have showcased all three of them.
