Michael Arden has been the only director for the English-language version of the show. There have been articles how the musical has changed between the Korean version and the US version because of differences in language and how lyrics function differently between the two languages, and how Arden has shepherded and shaped it. I don’t know why any of this should discredit the musical, the writers, the director, etc. We get it, you hate the show and go out of your way to belittle it, but you can’t ignore that it was a strong showing for Maybe Happy Ending and the Tony nominators liked the show enough to even nominate it for costume design. (Helen J Shen was an unfortunate casualty of a competitive category.)

I leantoward Tom Francis. Darren's characterization and acting are excellentand I'd love to see him win just as a longtime fan, but man, he just doesn't sound great on that score, which is so surprising because I generally really like his voice."
The award is for best actor, not best singer or vocal performance. Plenty of people who can barely sing have won Tony awards in the past. Sure, he doesn’t sound like John Raittin MHE, but remember that the role calls for and was directed to employmostly straight tone without any embellishments. I think
he’s terrific in the role and would be very deserving.
As would Tom Francis.

People dislike shows on here ALL THE TIME. It's okay. It's not discrediting it. Keeping it real. The lyrics are EXTREMELY similar as are many of the visuals and looks. It's not a bad thing but it's reality despite press to enhance its appearance.
Who snags choreography this year? Buena Vista? Boop?

It's not just that you don't like it; we all understand that art is subjective. It's that you make a point to mention not only that you don't like it, but how it's seemingly undeserving of praise (which, again, is subjective) any time it's brought up. All with such certainty, as though you are the final arbiter.
It's just an opinion like everyone else. Just truth telling. No final arbitration.

Just read a comment on Reddit that the title “Real Women Have Curves” maybe be offensive to the Trans community and by extension, their allies. I can see that being true, as well as it potentially being offensive to anyone else really.
Their point was that the title may keep people far away from the box office.

OFFS --- the only people who would find the title are offensive are the subsets of "professional victims", and those whose only goal in life is to become "outraged" keyboard warriors.

My vote goes to the duo of Justin Peck & Patricia Delgado for their elegant, Latin-infused dances in Buena Vista Social Club, versus the trio of Jerry Mitchell, Rachelle Rak and Jon Rua's cartoon-ography in BOOP!

“Keeping it real.” the new Tony catchphrase.

Happy I'll get to see BOOP (for a 2nd time) SMASH and RWHC next week but it's sad the clock is ticking on them.

I do find the name a bit offensive and outdated, but is that the only reason keeping people away from the box office?
Imagine a musical titled "Real men have muscles" in 2025...

I just don't think ''Buena Vista'' even with the great showing or even ''Dead Outlaw'' can beat the narrative/love with ''Maybe Happy Ending'' right now, and would see a clear path to Darren taking too.
If not him, maybe Tom Francis. ''Floyd Collins'' and Jeremy Jordan? I really don't see, there is not buzz for this show.
Also, really strong showing for ''John Proctor is the Villain'', but still think ''Oh, Mary!'' is a phenomenon that can't be beaten. You guys think ''Proctor'' can upset ''Mary''?
I agree that it feels like Oh Mary is just a phenomenon and that in and of itself feels like it might give it the edge over John Proctor. A lot can happen in a month though—I think a lot of folks feel like the Gen Z fervor of young women that John Proctor is tapping into can also feel like a phenomenon.
It’s also possible voters will feel they’ve satisfied their need by casting their vote for Cole as actor, and will want to reward Bellflower somehow as well.
Crazy to think that a marvel and Pulitzer Prize winner like English feels like it’s not quite contending with the others right now. I don’t understand why Roundabout didn’t have English running during voting season.

No way. Mary is taking play and acting categories.

THIS IS THE REASON WE ARE STUCK WITH THAT MF IN THE WHITE HOUSE. STUPID SH*T LIKE THIS.
If it were up to me, Operation Mincemeat would receive the best score, best featured actor, and best book. I'm gonna assume its only getting featured actor.
Finally catching up on all of this after an annoyingly slammed work day (really, of all the days)… my biggest WTF is all of the Pirates snubbing! I had the best time at that show. So many ultra competitive categories, so it is what it is, but I am shocked that it didn’t get an orchestrations nom. Shocked.
FWIW, I don’t find the Real Women Have Curves title offensive, but it’s definitely off-putting to a lot of demos. I find it nuts that they didn’t change it, and it absolutely has hurt them, if not with Tony nominations then with ticket sales. I originally wrote it off largely because of the title and what I expected it to be, and only ended up going because of the strong word of mouth. And in a lot of ways I’m probably their target.
I loved Boop so damn much and hope it can hang on a little longer so more people can see that pure explosion of joy. (And thrilled for its three noms, though of course was hoping for more. Namely score!)
Fina Strazza getting in is the one that really made my day. She was so, so good - I catch myself thinking about her performance.

I've long been predicting it for Book as well as Featured Actor. It seems like the sort of book most obviously "written", and could also be seen as a way to recognize the ensemble, as the performers also wrote it.

I'm not worried about Maybe Happy Ending at all because I said it's a lock for Best Musical. But I'm really curious about Best Play. Oh, Mary! is a phenomenon, but Purpose will probably win the Pulitzer which might give it momentum. Phylicia Rashad was also snubbed for best director for Purpose so that's a big knock working against it. I think I'll go with Oh, Mary! for now, but might change it later.

Louis McCartney is the second youngest nominee for LEAD ACTOR IN A PLAY at 21 years old, he's just 5 months older than Peter Firth was when nominated for EQUUS in 1975. He's the youngest nominee in this category for the last 50 years.
Sadie Sink is ALSO the second youngest nominee for LEAD ACTRESS IN A PLAY at 23 years old. The record still belongs to Susan Strasberg who was 18 when nominated for The Diary of Anne Frank in 1956. She is the youngest nominee in this category in almost 70 years.
Congrats on both!

With the lack of love that Mincemeat got, even Malone may be in trouble because they really like DEAD OUTLAW and Jeb Brown is basically a co-lead.
