That Follies has a pretty decent orchestra for a high school production, but...the production itself? Why does Sally sing like Snow White with that crazy vibrato? What...a treat! I'm happy to see a high school even attempting Follies. That takes guts!
That Follies is a mess, but I sorta give them credit for trying, as wrong as it is for a high school to try it anyway, really. At least I can recognize the music at any rate (and it looks like the director copied the youtube choreography of the original--ahem tried to--for Love Tomorrow), which is more than I can say for that classic Les Miz.
Funny, look at that poster's other files it seems the school's other musicals are much more traditional high school shows - Bye Bye Birdie, Guys and Dolls, etc...
I always feel bad about these. The kids involved are so seldom to blame for weak productions. The adults involved are. If these kids don't have a decent director, choreographer and music director they are often doomed. They are beign taught terribly.
Just remember: no matter how awful the outcome, the kids have likely worked hard and are proud of their work.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
It's true. The kids aren't always to blame. I remember being in a production of Into the Woods where most of the acting was pretty decent, but the "orchestra" consisting of a piano and a synthesizer were constantly changing keys, tempos, etc. for no reason. I finally go so fed up that I just quit following them and sang my songs the way they were written and the way I had rehearsed them.
That same group's "Ease on Down The Road" - which has a lot of ...um...steps and moves - but, really, didn't anybody look in the mirror to see how those steps and moves looked - because to me, well, they don't look so good. And you can hear some of the vocals going off because the singer is trying to do the steps/moves. Try a mirror...
Follies is pretty crazy for a high school (that Loveland is kinda sad), but the guy who plays Buddy is actually really good! And that orchestra! It sounds like a professional ensemble to me.

Here is an extra special rendition of "Buenos Aires" from a high school production of EVITA that looks like its on the set of THE SOUND OF MUSIC Shows that shouldn't be done in high schools
