"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I was also a little surprised at Kinky winning for choreography. I just don't remember that much outside that number and a couple of bits in The Land of Lola and the finale. I guess the treadmills clinched it.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
I don't know if Pippin is the next Chicago, I give it about 3 years personally, then the next great revival will come in and it'll be gone. Sad but true point of the industry.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
KINKY won choreography because it didn't entail dancers doing splits and cartwheels 2 seconds into the number. Mitchell knew how to build the numbers in the great tradition of Bennett and Fosse.
I can't wait to see PIPPIN when Raven Symone replaces Patina!!!!!!

Also, side note: what is with Royal Caribbean? So many annoying commercials and awkward product tie ins with their backstage correspondent. Was one year not enough for them to annoy everyone at the Tonys??
Scratch and claw for every day you're worth!
Make them drag you screaming from life, keep dreaming
You'll live forever here on earth.
Am I the only one who is finding the ubiquity of advertisements on this show aimed at the elderly?
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
