That number was phonomenal in the theater...on tv? Not so much.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I think year after year with these subpar performances in what usually works well on stage, the blame really falls with CBS for its sound design and camerawork.
The only numbers I thought that came off exceptionally well were Cinderella and Pippin.

Cicely gave the best speech of the evening.
I agree about Pippin's shirt, it's incredibly unflattering.

What about showing off the actual boots and doing "Raise You Up"?

I'm upset that Say Yeah translated so poorly on camera. Kinky Boots is full of life! Truly amazing!

Yes, because every Tony winning scores have no lyrical clunkers in them.

PIPPIN was busy and "overstuffed." Sorry gang. Threw some of Fosse's old moves with circus stuff into a pot and dumped it onstage.

The Kinky Boots number was so fabulous in the theater; didn't translate so well on TV.
To me, it looked pretty much the same.
KINKY is leagues and leagues better than MEMPHIS.
I rate them about evenly, though I don't think Memphis deserved Best Musical that season.

Random observation...this is the second year in a row that the Best Play winner didn't win any other awards.

After listening to the cast recording preview and seeing that number, I don't think Kinky Boots deserved Best Score.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

jv82, have you seen it live?
Yes, because every Tony winning scores have no lyrical clunkers in them.
Fair point, but usually then they don't show the clunkers when they are picking one to showcase on stage.

So true about the contrast between Ms. Tyson's speech as the exit music started playing and Ms. Lupone's.
Yes, Ms. Tyson's speech was slow, hard to hear at times, and drawn out time wise. But it was also magnificent and the epitome of class. In this day and age, we're in such a hurry with everything. Slow down and enjoy the moment. Thank you and Congratulations, Ms. Tyson.
