Wow, it's truly inhumane and tragic that these people are being expected to perform an action that they probably love and have elected to do for a career and for a living in front of the newly inaugurated President of the United States of America. Have people no heart? Can nobody see that these Rockettes are SUFFERING!? Where is the HUMANITY?

I'm sure they never wanted their career to end up honoring the very person who hates everything they stand for.

Sometimes you have to do things for your job that you don't like nor agree with. I think many of us here have done that and if you haven't had then consider yourself lucky. I'm sure it sucks for the ones who really don't want to be there but they have to look at the bigger picture for their own careers. They would be silly to risk their jobs over one day considering this job is probably something they have dreamed of doing since they were little kids.
This is a man who only a few days ago called for Time's Person of the Year to be renamed Man of the Year. I feel awful for these women who are being forced - to smile, entertain and perform for a man who has no respect or love for their gender (and in some cases, their race) - or face losing their jobs. I don't understand anyone who thinks otherwise. The president is just a job, it's just a title. It doesn't mean that someone is automatically worthy of being placed in high regard, someone worthy of giving up one's own morals or beliefs for. There have been plenty of despicable people that have been leaders of countries before. They are not and should not be God-like figures that their people should be at the whim of.
This is not just someone that these women may disagree with politically. This is someone that has outwardly shown hate and disrespect to them and their entire gender. Look at the wider picture here people. This is not a normal election. This is not a normal president-elect. Things aren't just going to go down quietly and normally. You can try and lecture people on how they should behave but you can't silence the majority of people in America on what they believe and stand for. That's all I'm going to say on the matter.
For those claiming this is an "honor"...then why have so very many artists turned it down?
The point is simply this: the individual dancer has no choice. I'm sure there are some Rockettes that are thrilled, some that don't care and some that don't want to it. They shouldn't be fired over it. Because it IS POLITICAL, they shouldn't be forced.
Of course, we don't actually know how many dancers are against this....let's not assume it's all of them.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It is an honor to perform for any POTUS, respect the office even if you dislike/hate the person. Just imagine if Hillary Clinton was elected and people turned down offer to play, 90% of this board would be calling these artists sexist. They are turning it down because of the abuse they would get if they accepted and don't want their careers effected. Congratulations Hollywood, you have done a great job of bullying. Before anybody wants to add that Trump is a bully I will just say "Two wrongs don't make a right".
Regarding the notion that refusing to perform at the inauguration might destroy a dancer's career: I don't know anything about the industry, but I have to believe that there are a lot of potential employers who would look favorably on a dancer for having this particular refusal on their record.

I'm a bit eccentric here, but it wouldn't be an honor for me. I don't have any respect for an office that's been inhabited by assholes since the day I was born. When I worked for Equality Maryland, a local civil rights organization, I declined an opportunity to visit the (Obama) White House because pretending to like the droner-in-chief would have made me physically ill.

Fine, I was thrilled to take a tour of the White House many years ago when President Clinton was in office.

You're damn right it's fine. :)
Just to be clear, Trump is in a whole different league of evil from Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc., which is why I despise his supporters, on here and in real life.

Of course and individual Rockette is not going to have their career ruined. I was talking about somebody like Andrea Bocelli who backed out because he was getting too much "heat" after accepting. Obviously, he thought it might have some effect on his career.

Yes- why won't you whiny liberals be tolerant towards the famously tolerant Donald Trump, who over his campaign showed his great tolerance and love towards Mexicans, black people, women, disabled people, veterans, Gold Star families, and picked a VP who wants to torture gay children until they are "straight"? Why bad liberals so mean to poor millionaire Donald?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
