The biggest loser last night? Us for having to deal with all the techicnal issues. Bad sound, cameras being in the wrong place, stage hands darting across the stage left and right...

Like it or not, she's "Tony Award Winner Karen Olivo," to you now, bub.
No one can take that away from her now.
Biggest Tony gripe = Marcia Gay Harden over Janet McTeer. That's a crime. Although, I did appreciate Marcia setting the record straight when the idiot camera men mixed the two Mary Stuart women up.
My biggest gripes are still over the missing nominations for Tovah Feldshuh, Daniel Radcliffe, Equus, and Blithe Spirit.
None of the musical lead actors have a gripe- all of them were lucky to be nominated, because in a stronger year, none of these performances would be award-worthy.
It wasn't the idiot camera man. It was the idiot director. The camera men had their cameras on the correct people...the director just chose the wrong shot.

Personally, Marcia Gay Harden over Janet McTeer seemed criminal, and God of Carnage over 33 Variations. I don't get GOC at all. Just my opinion - congratulations to the winners notwithstanding.

I thought that was one of the classiest things I've ever seen. I haven't seen MGH is much of anything, but there's just something I like about her.
Mrs. Harden is the epitome is class. I would have expected nothing less from her and I think she was as deserving of that award as any of the ladies nominated. It was a very tight race this year with five performances that should have each taken home the gold.

Anita is almost always the scene-stealer. I'm guessing that was the case in the last H.S. or community theater production of West Side Story you saw.
3 Broadway productions, 1 movie
3 noms for Anita, 2 wins
That's a pretty good record for the role...according to MY research.
And everyone on this board who hated Shrek more than anything they've ever seen either...that's such a ridiculous statement, it says more about the extent of your theater viewing or your pretentious tastes than the show.
"Personally, Marcia Gay Harden over Janet McTeer seemed criminal"
And once again the prejudice of drama over comedy rears it's ugly head. It ain't easy to make an entire theater roar with laughter. Ms Harden succeeds gloriously at it in "God Of Carnage".
I don't think anyone should have a gripe. I was upset a few of the people won, but I think it's more than an honor to even be nominated. And regardless of who I thought should or should not have won, everyone gave a VERY gracious and heartfelt speech and proved that winning meant the world to them, minus the 3 Billys, who gave a horrendous speech (You're 13! You're not that young! Grow up!). And I think that's the most important part of these awards.
^ with the pressure they put up with. I wouldn't be surprised if they starting bawling. give them a break.
See, I would've been sympathetic towards them. But if you notice, Trent takes a head start from his seat when they announce the nominations. VERY cocky.
13 is pretty young to be making a speech on nat'l tv and at RCMH.
Why do you care how much someone hated Shrek? How can YOU quantify THEIR experience? Oy.
The thing about Trent..... I have mixed feelings about how he tries to represent himself. But still I am very proud of all three. I feel David sometimes gets the end of the stick though.

That did not make Trent look cocky at all. He was just trying to get into the shot. I have met Trent a couple of times and I would not say that he is cocky at all.
i actually thought the billy's speach together was pretty funny. all thanking there moms and their sisters lol. and yes 13 is kind of young for that much pressure. doing a show every night for a few hundred is one thing but millions of people and you only have one shot, i'd be nervous too.
They were so awkward, and I found it completely endearing.

amoni - no prejudice of drama over comedy at all. I loved NORMAN, for example. I just can't quite find the substance in GOD OF CARNAGE, no matter how beautifully acted it may be. I will almost always favor Shakespeare over Noel Coward not because of the seriousness vs. laughs, but because of the layers of feeling and meaning involved. Just an opinion anyway.
I wish Gavin would have won, but he's probably to good of a person to hold a gripe.
3 Broadway productions, 2 Tony nominations and 1 win is NOT a direct correlation, as you claimed. Maybe if you spent less time making assumptions based on the performances of scene-stealing high schoolers, you'd realize that Anita is not a guaranteed award-winner.

if they can go on stage and do what is apparently tony worthy, then they can give a decent speech. being 13 is not an excuse, its not like they can't form their own sentences.
