I’ll report back on how the cast was. Never seen the show live... so won’t have much but the album to compete to. I am already noticing that in preshow photos the proscenium is lacking the “neon” type lights from the first national. "
I’m seeing it on opening night on Tuesday. I saw the OBC and then saw it during Sara’s first run and also saw Molly Jobe during Shoshana’s run. I’m kinda surprised it’s non equity but was bummed when I heard that when they released the season lineup. 2 of the 4 tours coming through Vancouver are non equity with this and Rent. DEH and FN are the equity tours we are getting. Will be interesting to see what’s it’s like in comparison to broadway."
Finding Neverland isn't equity either."
Was about to say. The only show Vancouver is getting included with season tickets that is equity is Dear Evan Hansen. Then of course Wicked is. But that’s a season add on. Kind of a bummer season.

My fellow MT obsessed flatmate and I are visiting NYC from the UK the first week of Jan, and nabbed a couple of tickets to see the last Waitress show as soon as it was announced. Can’t wait! Last time I saw it on Broadway was back in 2016 with Jessie. I’ve seen Katharine McPhee in the London production and thought she was absolutely brilliant with a stunning voice, so more than happy to see her close the show on Broadway. Sara would also have been nice because I haven’t seen her Jenna, but luckily for me I get to see her in the west end anyway next year! Just gotta decide what other shows we’re going to see now!!

Maybe if we're lucky...wouldn't it be cool if they filmed Sara & Gavin's performances in London?

So the non equity tour officially opened tonight in Vancouver. I didn’t realize it was opening night of the whole tour. Overall it was good. If I hadn’t seen it on bway three times I would have said it was really good but I don’t think it was in the same level (it is opening night so hopefully the show will grow and get better as it goes). I thought the ensemble were much weaker than on bway. They just didn’t have the same energy and there were a number of times that because of this they kind of fell into the background and it felt like they weren’t actually needed and were just in the way. I don’t think Jenna had the emotional depth and it felt like she was just saying her lines instead of feeling them but she found the emotion much better in Act II and her voice is strong that it was even big enough to fill the barn that is the QE Theatre. Dawn was the strongest I think. She did all the little things right and got a lot of laughs. Overall it was a fun night at the theatre and I think this cast is only going to get better as they grow into the show so if it comes through your town definitely check it out.

Shows me that the Networks tour got rid of the solid proscenium with built in lights and it’s just a fabric proscenium frame now. I wonder why... that original tour proscenium couldn’t have been that hard to install...
Perhaps a truck space thing.

I'm trying to decide if I should see this this weekend with Jordin, and take advantage of the discount count . I may only be able to see it one more time before closing so I'm not sure if I should go now, or pay full price and see it with Katharine Mcphee. What do you guys think?

I’m sure you’ll have a great time whoever you see, and they can both sing their faces off! I’ve only seen Katharine (in the west end production) out of her and Jordin so can only speak for her but thought she was so so good! And chills at her SUTBM. I don’t know what type of Jenna you like but Katharine’s Jenna is quite nuanced and dignified, which really resonated with me. She’s not a ~loud~ Jenna so if that’s what you’re after maybe go with Jordin, but then I don’t know what type of Jenna she is either. I also found Katharine to be really naturally funny in the bits where Jenna gets to be funny!

UGH. I would love that. But I haven't felt lucky since they let My Fair Lady with Laura Benanti go without a recording.

Anyone see last night's show with the closing cast? Wondering how they were together.

Definitely gonna see it when it comes to my local theatre next year.

also caught the show in Vancouver.
all automation gone, but honestly not necessary. It’s a simple show and works well with the cast choreography to move sets on and off.
cast was uniformly good. Not the strongest Jenna vocally, but still a good voice and acting chops.
Dawn and Becky were great.
love the music of course, but show is mostly just cute. Not the most amazing thing I’ve seen.

Just wanted to stop by to say something I noticed about Katharine McPhee's portrayal of Jenna...
I started in the mezz, but noticed an empty seat in the front row, so I moved. It was amazing to be so close, but I also realized...Katharine isn't bland, or boring. Her Jenna is portrayed as numb. She's checked out of where she is because she is so miserable in her current situation. During "SUTBM" I saw that crack; she broke. She became emotional-finally, raw, she actually had a tear coming out of her eye at the end. She finally broke open and showed Jenna as vulnerable, broken, and I think it was absolutely beautiful. I haven't stopped thinking about that since. She was incredible.

Just a heads up, my brother bought me tickets to see Kat on Dec 28th.
He was initially going to buy for Dec 29th, but the box office warned him Kat MIGHT be out that day. Figured I relay what he was told at the box office.
I know on twitter the Waitress account mentioned her out the 19th for 7PM and the 30th for both shows.
EDIT: it seems Molly Jobe posted on insta that Dec 29th would be her last time on as Jenna.

Yes that is correct. Stephanie on the 19th and 30th (two shows) and Molly on the 29th. However it’s a Sunday and I believe that Molly is just on for the 7 pm show and Kat is still there for the matinee.

Do you know what date they tweeted this? I just looked through their timeline and don't see anything about dates Kat won't be there.

Thank you. I bought a ticket for 12/19 before this was announced so am trying to decide what to do.

it was announced weeks earlier by Kat that she would be out for these four shows (although I cannot remember where I saw that). But we had been wondering if Stephanie would be doing all four shows. Then Stephanie posted she was only doing three shows and then a few days later, Molly announced she was doing the fourth.
This month, they have scheduled most of the understudies some last planned times to go on which was a lovely gesture IMO.
If you bought a ticket specifically to see Kat, you might want to see if they can exchange it for you. But if you just wanted to see a great performance, you will not go wrong with Stephanie. She’s always been one of my favorite Jennas.

The Waitress twitter account announced it via reply to someone on twitter on Dec 2nd.

I am hearing rumors that Waitress is moving off-Broadway to Stage42 after Yiddish Fiddler closes, do you think it will have enough demand to keep it running?

It has always frustrated the heck out of me that Waitress purposefully never say when their Jennas’ scheduled dates are. You have to become a detective to find out! I’m sure with Katharine now it’s so they can maximise profits as much as they can before she show closes - she was above the title for her first run last year so her scheduled dates were listed on ticketmaster, but not this time! A friend of mine had a massive hassle trying to swap tickets for a date Katharine was on (she’s seen Stephanie before so it wasn’t an anti understudy thing!) - she originally was going on the 19th - and the person she spoke to at the Brooks said they couldn’t confirm her dates, even though they had them!
Anyway, pretty sure Katharine is off the 19th Dec, 29th Dec and the 2 shows on the 30th Dec. Molly is Jenna on the 29th and Steph is Jenna the other shows.

The 29th is a Sunday. Two shows. I’m fairly sure Molly is only on for the night show. Kat is there for the matinee.

Thanks for the heads up. All shows have such different schedules, I got confused. My apologies.
