This is making me so mad...
I officially despise this show! WTF, are people really that dumb. It should have gone to Piazza.

I think that Spamalot was certainly not the best musical CD. I would say it should have been Piazza or Spelling Bee
SPELLING BEE should have taken it. Grrr
Not surprising.
Look how well it sold!
(But I agree, it doesn't deserve any recognition.)
it definelty did not deserve it. Even Spelling Bee had a better chance. Piazza should have recieved it.
Nice spoiler.
But remember, the Grammy is for best recording...not best show. There are technical aspects to be taken into account here as well as artistic ones. While I greatly prefer Piazza to Spamalot as a show, I have to admit that the Spamalot recording does sound terrific.
More reason for me NOT to go see Spamalot. It's bad enough that it won best musical.

Jeez. I thought Ghostlight/ Sh-k-Boom were gonna have their grammy!
Nice spoiler.
How is it a spoiler? Only 11 of the 108 awards are given out during the telecast, and the rest (including this one) are given out during a separate ceremony beforehand.
Grrr.

Oh Dottie, why would you ever miss out on seeing this? I had to take the opportunity....except it was so that I could fully back up my claims when I told everyone it did NOT deserve the Tony. I saw all the musicals nominated last season, but I had to see Spamalot so I could say it should have lost and the back-up I needed was to see it.
i agree with emcee- grrr.
I believe a huge percentage of the reason a cast album wins is due to sales. It sold an incredible amount.
I know what you're saying C, but I really have no desire to see Spamalot. Then again, I'm a bitter queen (according to someone on this board), so what do I know?

Although I loved Hair, Spamalot's win is well deserved.

Hmm Dottie, you are like the 3rd person I heard called a bitter queen on this board in probably the past month...Actually was that on a wicked post? I believe I may have been there for that one.
Anyway, if this award is for anything then Spamalot deserved it for seeling a lot of albums. It may help us get some more in the future so although its Spamalot, its a fast selling album! Lets value it this time for something
Actually, C, you were called one too in the same thread as I was (hint, see Chita Men at Splash from last night).
Nah CJR, I'm glad it won too. =) I happen to love the music from this show, and the show itself.
Apparently, Im the only one happy about this......
Nope, CJR, you're not...just one of the few who's brave enough to admit it.
I didn't see Piazza, or hear the OCR for it (or the Hair album), so I'm not in a position to judge on those. But I saw Spamalot, Spelling Bee and DRS. I own the OCRs for Spamalot and DRS. I've played DRS once or twice, but have lost count of the number of times I've played Spamalot. I'm not about to get into a fruitless argument with anyone about its merits...I'll just say that I enjoy the hell out of it. {shrug}

Omg Dottie, lmao I didn't even see that or was counting it before in my tally of times I've heard that one before this month. Edge probably only had a problem with us because we only thought it a tiny bit distasteful having her group of dancers shoving their asses in peoples face to sell tickets to an already sadly dying show.....bitter old queen? Oh well, I guess theres a first time for everything...even though I'm 17 and although I have never been on broadway, I know what its like to receive applause from an audience when performing. And I don't go around in Chita thongs.
Sh-K-Boom was robbed!
D@MN IT! Piazza is a far superior recording in my opinion...I really thought that it was going to be Piazza just like when Passion took it in '94...DEpressing...
