That was in reference to Jennifer Nettles' latest album, Always Like New, which has her singing a compilation of Broadway tunes. Perhaps they decided it was too easy of a clue?!

Ahh thank you! I thought it was a potential clue for a third Jenna that might have been posted too soon then deleted.

This isn't really a casting rumor, more of a dream casting but imagine if Nicolette Robinson came back as Jenna and Leslie Odom Jr. played Dr. Pomatter? Even Waitress the Musical tweeted about it!

I’d take Nicolette back with anyone as Jenna. Out of the 9 Jennas who performed (who I was lucky enough to see numerous times), she was way on top of my list. Leslie used to come to the back of the house to watch her. He would always say, I’m Nicolette’s husband. Yeah we know.

That's such a beautiful story!!!
I wanna say its possible too? Sara Barielles literally had a glowing Instagram reaction and Nicolette responded. Imagine if they end the show together?
I really loved Nicolette as Jenna. She had the voice, and also the warmth and humor.

That's so reassuring to hear. At 41 I feel like I'm doomed.
That was a bit off topic/TMI.. what I really came here to say is...
I have not loved anyone else's rendition of SUTBM as much as I did Jessie Mueller's, but I think Jennifer Nettles may end up being the one to top it for me.

She sang this so naturally and effortlessly, and with so much emotion without even being in character. All her songs she sings with so much emotion, Sugarland's "Stay" a perfect example. It will be kinda cool that her southern accent will be genuine in the role too.
Looks like I'll be seeing Waitress at least one more time before it closes.

Pretty sure Waitress Musical is filming/photographing Jennifer Nettles' for ads/the next Waitress playbill but they deleted it off their social medias?
Also, Cal's Diner menu which they also deleted? Hmmm

I don’t think that means anything. Stories on Instagram disappear after a certain amount of time. I wouldn’t read into that.

Yes, her and Kat were my 2 fave Jennas. I’d love to see Nicolette return with Leslie as Dr P but Leslie seems like a busy guy with his tv and film schedules so I wonder if they’d be able to fit it into his schedule. All I’m sure the Wesslers are still looking for named stars!! As successful as he is right now, I’m still not sure Leslie is enough of a name to attract the tourist ticket crowd.

This insta from Erich Bergen and the caption totally seems like a hint he’s going to be the Dr P to Jennifer Nettle’s Jenna!

I'd love to see Nicolette Robinson come back. Her singing and acting were great. It's also worth noting that she was the first Jenna who had actually been pregnant, and I thought that affected her performance very strongly, including the way she moved on stage that some of the other actors didn't quite get.
Jordin Sparks was also an excellent Jenna -- she sang extremely well and really acted it beautifully, including that she seemed totally working class, which I don't think Bareilles, Mueller or McPhee ever fully captured.

Not attempting to derail anything here, but there's something about the wording of this that really rubs me the wrong way. I get that you mean that her performance felt more authentic to you, but the way that this is worded felt a little "this woman of color felt more working class than the prominent white women who have played the role".
I'm not attempting to accuse you of actually saying this, but wanted to point this out as folks who do mean it this way often code their language similarly.
Completely agree, that felt like very unfortunate and insensitive wording.
Also, I just generally disagree, because Jessie Mueller comes off incredibly "working class" to me, in a way I don't think *any* other Jenna has captured at all.

Accusing me of using “coded language” is exactly what you’re doing. It’s good to remember that you actually know nothing about any of the people behind these screen names. Not that it should matter, but I am Black, and I grew up in a very working class environment. The story of Waitress resonates with my experiences.
In my comments, I highlighted that Sparks acted Jenna more authentically than any other actress I saw. She inhabited the character believably as a woman stuck in a dead end job and a marriage that she couldn’t see a way out of. If you read something untoward into that, it’s on you.
I don’t expect an apology, but I do hope you’ll proceed with a bit more grace in the future.

I'd like to comment that I am also black along with a graduate Theatre/African American Studies double degree (woot!), looking at such language (theatrically or otherwise) has been a part of what I have done as my educational background. Not only did I pretty tamely address the potential use of language, I addressed the specifics of how you worded the statement and not your intent (which I also brought up)
Not only did I note that it is the wording that could be interpreted this way, but I also in a literal sense let you know that that's not what I believe that you intended. I feel like you took what I had pointed to and decided to exasperate the comment and make it into something much more than what I said. I pointed to the potential coding that could exist. To say that she "acted it beautifully, including that she seemed working class" is absolutely something that could be used as coded language. I'm also, as noted above, not the only one who found the wording odd.
Heck, even in your amended version of your perspective you worded it differently. You're talking about the performative nature of theatre, and "seeming" can mean a lot of things. You're now talking about authenticity in tangible means, but "seeming" is almost always implying an outward apperance (Merriam-Webster defines as both "external appearance as distinguished from true character" and "outwardly or superficially evident but not true or real". This is about language, which is what I was talking about, not the user or their intent. I'll also reiterate that I, again, said that this is sometimes how people can code language... not that you did.
If you took my comment as some sort of personal attack, that's on you. Honestly of all the times I've seen someone point stuff like this out dare I say this is the most calm/general point out I've witnessed, especially that I literally absolved you of intent. You've now interpreted this as me accusing you as some racist who used coded language, which is a bit absurd.
I will not apologize because I have nothing to apologize for, and I hope that you'll proceed with a bit more grace and self-reflection in the future instead of jumping to such a conclusion when something along this line is brought up.

There are poor and working class people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, but Waitress is a story that has traditionally been told from a white perspective. I said that I thought Sparks acted the role beautifully and that she seemed believably working class in a way that Mueller and especially Bareilles did not. It's a comment on her acting. Furthermore, "working class" is not a slur or something to be ashamed of. You extrapolated a coded message from my use of the term "working class" in relation to a mixed-race actor in a role that's been played predominantly by white actors. If my use of that term didn't "sit right" with you, explore that with your therapist. Peace.

Again, missing the point. I am, again, talking about use of language. Being working class is not what I'm commenting on. It's also as someone who claims I'm assuming your background... you're doing a lot of assuming about my collective experience lol.
I'd also again like to point out didn't say working class was a slur or anything to be ashamed of, I didn't say that working class was the problem, and I didn't say that this particular use of working class was what rubbed me the wrong way. You're attempting to put words in my proverbial internet mouth.
But if you feel better because you see me as some person on the internet with a vendetta against the working class, you go for it. I merely pointed out that they way you structured your sentence could be left to interpretation in a way you might not have intended (which another user also pointed to, it's not like I'm pulling this from nowhere LOL), which you then let us know you were talking about her authenticity. It's really not that big of a deal, and your overreaction is what made this into what it became.
Peace, I guess you go see a therapist as well? Everyone would more than likely benefit from emotional support LOL.
I am the third person to chime in and say your initial comment didn’t sit right with me. The way you phrased it struck me as not quite kosher.
I understand now that what you meant to say was that you saw an extremely authentic portrayal of Jenna because of your background and life experience through Jordin Sparks and that it resonated with you in ways you didn’t get from the other three Jennas. I think had you added a sentence or two no one would have batted an eye. But based on what you posted, it definitely was not clear what you meant.
I think apologies are in order for telling him/her to go speak to a therapist. It’s completely out of line and just not nice. I wasn’t really on anyone’s “side” until you said that.
Ultimately, I understand that you feel you didn’t phrase anything badly but when three separate people find red flags with your wording, I think it’s time to reconsider it.

I’m just curious…Jessie Mueller never said she closed the door on playing Jenna, right? Does anyone think there could be even a SLIGHT chance that she could close out the run after Jennifer?

I have hit my Waitress limit (eight), but if Jessie Mueller closes out the role, I will be the first one in (virtual) line to buy tickets.
