"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I'm sure she'll mention her debut on her show tomorrow. plus I'm sure she'll be tired. she did 2 shows today, has her talk show tomorrow, then a show at 8pm.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I saw the show Saturday night. It's kinda hard to judge her, it was her second performance.
Can she vocally sing it? No. She "Rex Harrisoned" most of her songs. But she did have a good enough ear to know to not go for notes that she knew she didn't have.
Can she act it? Not sure. She seemed very hesitant to be "Wendy Williams" as Mamma Morton, which is why I assumed she was hired, so she came off as very generic.
Did I enjoy her? Yes. The moments when she was Wendy were terrific and you could see that she was giving it her all. I really loved watching her watch "We both Reached for the Gun".
And to the Wendy fans... she does add in "how you doing"...
""So what's the one conclusion, I can bring this number too, When you're good to momma, Momma's good to.... ....How YOU doing.... You, you, yooooouuuuuu"
She talks about her experience and there's a peek of her singing her title song at 3:02. I mean, she's bad, but I don't think she's THAT bad. She doesn't have the stage presence, but then again it was her first performance EVER on the Broadway stage, I think she has the potential to be good. She says that she was so "scared", and she's obviously more comfortable now since she has done 4 shows now. So I'll give her some time...lol
I think Wendy will do just fine. She has the personality to pull it off. I will go see her towards the end of her run. The first time I saw Chicago was with Sofia as Mamma and I really loved her performance, she had a lot of charisma. And that video of Patti Labelle was horrible! I cringe every time she sings and she was so wooden and had no stage presence!
She looks just as messy as I'd imagined. Can't wait to see her!
I give her a lot of credit for stepping out of her comfort zone even if she looks uncomfortable onstage in that clip. Here's hoping she can overcome that and bring the charisma she brings to her talk show.
And this is hardly the first, last, or even the worst stunt-casting Broadway has seen. Especially in a Weissler show.
Any idea where the rush seats are for this??

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
Yes it is brave especially if you are gonna be constantly judged and criticized for it. Wendy might not be qualified to played the role but she is trying something new and getting out of her comfort zone. Even though she got this opportunity because she has fame it should not diminish her hard work and her bravery for putting her self out there. This also goes for Christie Brinkley, Sofia Vergara and others who had a dream of being on Broadway and took the opportunity that was given to them.
