Almost 2,000 women were killed by their partners in 2016, so ACTUALLY the numbers of women killed over the last century by accounts and statistics is more than the Veitnam war.
But pointing at a war and telling women, see you don't have it that bad. You get the comfort of being murdered in your own home by someone you know!

Well, just in Vietnam 58,000 men lost their lives, and almost an equal amount came back permanently traumatized. Eight women were killed. If, as is alleged, three women a day are killed by their male partners (we are not told the rate at which the woman kills the man), it would take over 19,000 days to match the Vietnam total. That's fifty three years. That's just Vietnam. Over 400,000 were killed in the Second World War.
I won't go on outraging you. But consider these incidents of domestic violence. How is the Constitution supposed to prevent these. What Amendment can be added to stop them. That which is ignored here is thatsome responsibility must fall on the woman. The Justice Department reports always say that the abuse or killing comes during an argument between the couple, often fueled by alcohol. It must be the responsibility of the woman to make sound choices of whom she invites to be intimate with her, when it is a good time to damp instead of escalate an argument, and when to dial 911 if things get out of hand.
If the Constitution could eliminate guns in private homes, that would be a help. What else?

If someone told me at the beginning of the season that my favorite play of the season would be What the Constitution Means to Me, I would have laughed out loud. However, after seeing this brilliant piece of theatre tonight, I can easily say that this is not only the best play of the season, but also the best AND most unique play to hit Broadway in awhile.
Heidi Schreck is so endearing, enthralling, and clever beyond belief. I was absolutely riveted by her delivery of the copious of amounts of knowledge she has. She never once lost me throughout the entire play. I could have easily listened to her talk for another hour and not have gotten bored or tired. Even though she is playing herself, she has my vote for the Tony for Best Actress in a Play.
There is a joke made at one point in the evening about the construction of the play and how it may seem disjointed, but I found this piece to be extremely cohesive. The themes and subject matter are always at the forefront of the play. With so much ground to cover in less than two hours, it’s easy to see how this kind of play could get messy, but it never does. The play is concise, powerful, and to the point while still covering a wide array of topics.
I originally had very little interest in this when it was announced. However, after reading the reviews and hearing the great word of mouth, I decided to give this a go. I am so glad that I did. This play is theatrical magic of a different kind.

Saw this Sunday and it was the best show of our weekend (much better than Tootsie and Ink). In fact, I’d rank plays this year like:
1) The Ferryman
2) What The Constitution...
3) TKAM
4) Network (just cause Cranston, without him it’d be behind Ink)
5) Ink
Its a show that imo every U.S.resident should have to watch. Heidi makes you feel like you’re having a personal conversation with just you and her.
Sunday we saw Thursday and I loved her. Look forward to seeing her in congress one day!

i saw the show last week and I'd like to note to people considering going that they'll mainly enjoy the show if they agree with the politics (which is that straight white men are oppressors). If you agree with that message, you'll love the show. If you don't, you'll hate it. I had people in my vicinity from both camps and the post-show chatter consisted of both raves and pans.

I'm sorry that I upset so many people. This should make all you white male haters feel better. In New York State there are three white male suicides for every one female white suicide. This is true for all age groups.
In many states the ratio goes as high as four males to one female.

I think the real oppressors are those at the top of our social Darwinistic hierarchy, which for historical and cultural reasons are majorly straight white men. Middle class and lower class straight white men are just as much of a victim as everyone else in their class. I think the overemphasis in identity politics is kind of maneuvered to hide the root of the problem—power and money, and the social stratification based on them.

How about you see the goddamn show before trying to argue against the points you think Schreck is trying to make?
Because, now having seen the show, I can say none of your concerns/rebuttals are actually valid. And that none of the reviews have actually adequately captured what the play is, or specifically trying to say.

But isn’t theater the place to have this conversation? Art has always been political in its nature of human expression and experience. I do think while many of theatrical pieces today try to make sense of the world we live in today through the perspective of identities, the dialogue we are having would be more productive and meaningful to focus a bit more on what gives identities meaning and how identities are socially constructed. I’m not saying that there are no production attempting to deconstruct these concepts, but I do wish the “mainstream” theater would take a similar approach.

Saw the show today and found it to be much more moving than I expected. Heidi does an excellent job of being relatable and funny while getting extremely dark and emotionally intense at other points, and you really feel for her/her family. While this show certainly is relevant in our current political climate, it doesn't feel reactionary in a negative way but is addressing bigger systemic issues.
The only negative about this great show was the debate portion at the end. It felt like an odd come-down that detracted from the overall effectiveness of the show and its emotional impact.
Also Corey Cott from Riverdale was at the show today, and he's even more attractive in person.

I saw this today. Loved the first half, hated the second half. I agree with whoever said, I could watch Heidi Schreck talk forever. It was when it got away from that, that it completely lost me.

Nope, can't think of any posts where I was complaining about being the victim of society. Maybe you could find one for me. Mostly I post about Kelli O'Hara and Kristin Chenoweth, about the Golden Age musicals. Often I go off verbosely to talk about old theater stories that I think others have never heard of since they are much younger than me. Like how Meredith Willson's estate receives more royalties every year for use of the Beatles' recording of 'Til There Was You" than it did from licensing the whole show. I never get a reaction to any of this, but neither does anyone else and I hear from some lurkers who are appreciative.
This is a great message board to learn about theater from insiders, but it lacks civility, warmth and humor unless the humor is at someone else's expense.
Keep cool it will be all one a hundred years hence.

That's a misquote. She said "this century" (i.e., the 21st century), not "in the last century".
And seriously, you need to stop trying to debate an argument you haven't heard. You're currently fighting with both arms tied behind your back, and losing badly.I'm not going to spoil it for you, but her thesis involves such discussions as positive-rights constitutions vs negative-rights constitutions, and Castle Rock v Gonzalez including audio from the SCOTUS deliberations. You simply look like an idiot in the face of her points.

It is, and wonderfully directed by Marielle Heller. But there was an extra thrill seeing Heidi & co. do it live.
