I'm very into 'Goodbye' from Catch Me If You Can. I'm not sure how it's staged in the show, but I think it could be done incredibly (though I think the show should end there).
"Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey!" and "You Can't Do Me," both from Scottsboro Boys (although the latter sounds like several other Kander songs) are the ones I welcome most on the iPod from this year's scores. Updated On: 4/28/11 at 11:11 AM
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
I also love "Hey Hey Hey Hey" as well as "Go Back Home" from Scottsboro Boys, but I particularly loved the way the sound was mixed in the Broadway production. I felt like you could hear Jeremby Gumbs' boy soprano parts a lot more in the live Broadway production than you could hear Cody Ryan Wise from the recording.
I feel like I should go with something from Scottsboro which I think had the best overall score, but my favorite song comes from my runner-up score. "Turn It Off" from Book of Mormon. It's exaaaaaactly the kind of inappropriate humor I most love. And it's super fun. AND Rory O'Malley is perfection.
There's no way I can choose, this year had some fantastic scores.
'Fly Fly Away' from CATCH ME 'Spooky Mormon Hell Dream' & 'Turn it Off' from THE BOOK OF MORMON 'Model Behavior', 'On The Verge' 'Island' & 'Tangled' from WOMEN ON THE VERGE
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
I agree with "Fly Fly Away". It is truly amazing. It is not my "favorite song of the season" but I do enjoy "Ten Little Indians and the Great Compramise" from BBAJ. Most of the score from BBAJ is enjoyable. Updated On: 4/28/11 at 08:31 PM
Minstrel March from Scottsboro Boys (it would be so fabulous if that show won best score, though it obviously won't), and 'Man Up' and 'We Are Africa' from 'Book of Mormon.' If only for the way that Josh Gad pronounces 'Aphhhhrica.' It's amazing how just his annunciation can get so many laughs.
