David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

I don't know about any of you that remember your high school shows, but was there more drama involved in the casting and stuff than there was on the actual stage? Definitely how it is at my school - they make the politics so obvious.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

HIGH SCHOOL: - We did a cabaret when I was a freshman. We had many different songs and scenes. I sang in "Comedy Tonight", "Cool", and a few other songs, and I played Romeo in the balcony scene of ROMEO & JULIET. - ONCE UPON A MATTRESS (I was to play the Minstrel, but I had to drop out because of prior engagements) - FAHRENHEIT 451 (Beatty) - SCAPIN (Scapin) - THE CRUCIBLE (Deputy-Gov. 4th grade: Sally, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" Tessie, "Annie" 5th grade: Curley Locks, "Babes in Toyland" Becky Thatcher, "Tom Sawyer" 6th grade: Alice Wendleken, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" Dori, "Schoolhouse Rock- LIVE" 7th grade: Joisey's Girlfriend, "Last Stop Till Christmas" Susan, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" 8th: Lucy, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" (Again!) Upcoming: Anne Gilbreth, "Cheaper by the Dozen"
Plenty of community theatre, including: Mary Tilford, "The Childrens Hour" this past fall, one of the silly girls in "Beauty and the Beast", Adele in "Jane Eyre" when I was ten, the Gryphon in "Alice in Wonderland" when I was twelve, Shirley in "Guys and Dolls", Amaryllis in "The Music Man", Mary Ellen (a school girl) and Dorothy in the parade in "A Christmas Story", and Harriet Ames in "Stuart Little".
When I was in middle school my HS did "Into the Woods", "Once Upon a Mattress", "Taming of the Shrew" and "Kiss Me Kate". I know we have also done "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Brigadoon".
Musicals: "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!" - tech "Little Shop of Horrors" - Dentist Patient#1/Skid Row Resident/Skid Row Visitor (Basically Dentist Patient + Ensemble) "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" - Student Director "Applause" - Petra (originially Peter, Margo Channing's agent"
Plays: "The Foreigner" - tech "M*A*S*H*" - Mitzi Bonwit (SOOOOOO FUN) "Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" - Marjorie Baverstock "Witness for the Prosecution" - still to be cast
Drama Final Projects, Competition pieces, etc: (Separate category bc these were kind of cast by ourselves and/opr without real auditions)
"Midsummer Night's Dream" - Mustardseed/Fairy in Monologue "For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls" (Parody of Glass Menagerie) - Amanda Wingvalley (4 of us did this after 4 other students did Glass Menagerie. It was a hit and this was by far the best role I have ever played and the best script I have ever worked with. "The Doctor Inspite of Himself" - Lucinde (she's mute until the end which didn't look like a lto of fun but it IS! Not a lot of lines but a LOT of fun)
Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on."
- from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
I'm jealous of schools that get to do a musical every year. They have this system where we alternate every other year doing a musical and going on a trip. I would rather do a musical every year than go somewhere though.
Freshman year I was in the ensemble of birdie. Now I'm in my junior year, and I'm the Herald in Cinderella because we don't have enough guys that can sing to have a male Herald.
College: Junior Year: Dr. Panache in "A Flea in Her Ear"...auditioning for "Evita" next monday
Sophomore Year: Hero in "A Funny Thing...Forum"
Freshmen Year: Bob Cratchit in "A Christmas Carol" and Solo Tenor/Ensemble in "Sweet Charity", plus I choreographed "Footloose" for a High School...my God was that production bad
High School: Senior Year: Tommy Djilas in "Music Man", Prince Dauntless and the Choreographer for "Once Upon a Mattress", Kenji, Father, Mr. Araki in "1000 Cranes", Ugly in "HONK!"
Junior Year: Dancer/Nazi in "Sound of Music", Tevye in "Fiddler..", Schroeder and Choreographer in "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown"
Sophomore Year: Johnny Casino and Teen Angel in "Grease", G-Man in "You Can't Take It With You",
Freshmen Year: Tap Chorus/Sailor in "Anything Goes", Guard/Dancer/Chorus in "Romeo and Juliet" and the lead player in "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!"
Yep...that's about it...lets hope I get a good part for Evita!
Who's the Lead Player in Schoolhouse? Oh and ShlamDiddly, M*A*S*H* and MCM1940 were done in consecutive years for me! Who were you in MCM1940? GRREEEEEEAT show!
Why is M*A*S*H* so popular? It's got a big cast and and the name's famous. I suppose that's it.
Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on."
- from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
None. My school district NEVER put on shows. In college, two years ago was the first musical they ever did and I was a part of it. It was OKLAHOMA! But, we did do two years of Musical Revues and I played a lot of characters. I had the most parts of the guys both years. Go Me!!!
