It's such a well-put-together gem of a show...leagues and leagues better than CRY-BABY.
Plus the nominations it got, it deserved a Best Musical nod and nods for its score and book. I feel so awful for it, it's such a great show and I hope word of mouth stays really strong. It's my favorite new musical of the season.
what ever happened to Cat On A Hot Tin Roof? was it not eligible? I thought that was supposed to be very good? I guess not. Although I heard Cry baby was terrible but judging by those noms its not either. what a disappointment this year was.
-A Catered Affair was definitely robbed (in a number of categories- Musical, Book, Score, Featured Actress, Maybe Featured Actor, Set). -Nathan Lane -Kevin Kline
I really think that Nathan Lane should have gotten a nomination. Not a win, but definitely a nod. The show is still drawing fairly well based totally on his performance. The story is basically crap and he has almost single handedly kept people coming to see it.
Also, A Catered Affair should have gotten a nod over Cry-Baby. I really don't know what the nominating committee was looking at. I would have even taken YF over Cry-Baby in a heartbeat. Oh well, it wouldn't be the Tonys if there wasn't some controversy.

I was suprised Chris Fitzgerald got nominated. I thought he was horrible. Sutton Foster got snubbed. YF probably should've gotten a best choreography nod too, but def. not best musical.
And what's the deal with The Little Mermaid getting Best Original Score? Is that a mistake? A) It's based on a movie, so it shouldn't count as original B) It really wasn't that good.
Wow, I thought Fitzgerald was fantastic in that role! It wasn't an easy role to begin with and he was the best thing about YF, imo. Also, I totally agree that Laura Linney should have gotten nominated. That was a crime!! First she loses a deserved Oscar and now this...

While he wasnt exactly "robbed" I think Matt Morrison should have been nominated for SP. The dramatic arc of his character, those glorious songs, and his fine voice certainly was worthy of it. Where Robin in ITH was sweet and charming it's really a small role, whereas Morrison's part is much more substantial all around.
I felt my heart break when I read that A Catered Affair didn't get a nomination for Best Musical.

Young Frankenstein was totally robbed. The score is by far a much more mature Mel Brooks score and in my opinion one of the best original Broadway scores in many years. The Producers was great but for the score of Young Frankenstein, he outdid himself in every way. Roger Bart was fantastic, Strohman did a wonderful job. This was a HUGE snub to a fantastic show with one of the best scores in years. I am debating whether I will watch at all, because I will only be upset. I guess the famous political system has overtaken the Tony's just like the Academy. How sad it is! This should have a best score, best actor, best musical nom at the very least. This sucks major!
Some of those songs for The Little Mermaid they added were excellent songs... It is one of those shows that I think about it and then I think.. gosh i really liked it and then i think more and i think geesh it was poo and then again... well not so bad. It is hard to put into form how I feel about that show.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
"Young Frankenstein not getting a nomination for Best Musical THIS YEAR of all years is a freaking joke."
"Young Frankenstein was totally robbed."
Why are people shocked about YF? Around when it first opened, the general consensus was that it was a bland show because it was just a carbon copy of the movie and that the music was forgettable. After those reactions from people on this board, I can see why YF did not pick up nominations in categories such as Best Musical or Best Score but did get noms in the Scenic Design and Featured Actor/Actress categories. Whether or not there was competition, I think YF was nominated in categories it deserved. Now whether or not A Catered Affair or Little Mermaid should have taken the fourth spot in the Best Musical category is another issue, but I do not think YF was snubbed.

How Jackie and Mary were left out is INSANE. They were my favorite performers as well as Mary McCormack. Thankfully, Mary got one. I adore, BOEING BOEING.
