I am currently working on a song called "What more do I nee" from Saturday Nights. And I heard Sarah sing it, and I was surprised, the music seems unlike her, but I enjoyed it though.

I didn't like Emmy at all! I agree with costume, I was booored with her face and of course with her voice... I like Sarah's "Wishing you were..." in her Vegas concert. I know I'm getting out of the original question, but if u can hear mexican Christine, Irasema Terrazas, I'm pretty sure you'll like her, she sings like an angel
If I have to choose between the two of them then I guess Emmy. I cannot stand Sarah Brightman. From the first time I heard her sing I did not like her. I just think she's too over the top for me. But if I had to choose another person I might choose Claire Moore. I thought she did a wonderful job and she has a beautiful voice.
"The weight of this sad time we must obey, Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say. The oldest hath borne most; we that are young Shall never see so much, nor live so long"-Edgar in King Lear
There is no question...Sarah Brightman. Even though I don't care for her voice, she is a strong soprano. Emmy Rossum, although quite beautiful in looks, doesn't have a strong soprano voice and would have never been selected to sing the leads witha any opera company. The movie, with the exception of Patrick Wilson, really shortchanged us in the vocal department.
"And the ending of the title song was lowered for her because she couldn't sing what was originally written."
Wasn't it lower because the song was one verse (and one key change) shorter than the original/stage version??!
And it seems a bit funny that someone mentioned that Sarah wouldn't pass for a young chorus girl - when the show opened she was 26 and there are actresses older than her playing the role...
But as for the question, I prefer Sarah's singing in the title song, but in most of the other's I prefer Emmy.
Sarah Brightman over Emmy OF COURSE. Emmy's voice was sub-par, and honestly I cannot belive they cast her. I found it sad that I didn't even remotely enjoy her vocals at all until "Point of No Return", which is the secong to last sequence in the show. Sarah Brightman has a much stronger voice. How are we to belive that Christine is vocally better than Carlotta when, with Emmy Rossum, she obviously isn't?
.....HOWEVER, in terms of the best Christine I have ever seen, I would definitely have to say LISA VROMAN.....She IS Christine. Her rendintion of the role is fabulous, and left me wishing that the show would just continue on, and on!
.....I also enjoyed performences by Marie Danvers and Rebecca Pitcher.

I agree with Pinguin. I haven't heard a Christine that I like. Though I think "Think of Me" and "Wishing You Were Here Again" are wonderful songs, along with most of what Christine sings. If I had to pick though, Emmy. Cannot stand Sarah at all.
While I'm not a fan of Brightman's tone, I prefer to hear her power and intonation. The best Christine I've heard is Rebecca Caine on the Canadian recording.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
Sarah Brightman. I'm not the biggest fan ever, but while lots of people say her voice is too "strong" -- I'd take that any day over Emmy's incredibly WEAK soprano range.
It's Sarah all the way - maybe I think that the original is always the best, plus having the material written for Sarah is a plus in her favor. The best "wedding present" she could have gotten .I've heard others sing this score - some better than others, but I don't think anyone matches Sarah.
I def say Emmy rossum!!! Sarah's voice is so annoying! (no offense to anyone) Keep in my mind Emmy was only like 17 and for her to those notes is awsome!! I'm a huge emmy fan.....

I hate Brightman's voice, and she has the worst diction, this side of Charlotte Church, so I'd have to go with Emmy Rossum, who isn't all that wonderful, either.
Emmy's voice was too weak for the role. I couldn't stand listening to her.
>>>I love Sarah's 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and "Phantom of the Opera" I find her weak on other parts. As for her age, I don't find her to sound that old, and Christine really isn't supposed to be all that young, not as young as Emmy Rossum played her, that was purely for cinematic effect.
Christine was, indeed, NOT written as a teen in the ALW musical. Schumacher had to have a sexy, young man in the lead, and so it followed (to him) that he should pair him with an underage girl. Makes sense to me! Way to go, Joel!
