To some extent, I can understand Kiss Me Kate seeing as how was not developed as a true book musical -- but Oklahoma??? That really confuses me -- the show may seem "dated" to today's audience but I'm very curious WHY people think it's so bad -- I certainly hope those with that feeling are basing it on a professional production and not local community/high school production.

I've seen... Please don't kill me--but Phantom. I don't know, I loved Evita, Les Miserables has a great first act and an okay second, but Phantom. Eh...it just wasn't good. Harold Prince did a great job staging and of course the design was splendid, but the content was not very good. If I had to choose a second, which relies more on the production than the content, was 2003's Little shop of Horrors. I love the score and book, but Kerry Butler, Hunter Foster and Rob Barlett all were inferior in every way to the original off-Broadway cast, especially Ms. Butler who gave the worst performance of that season. Douglas Sills, Michael Leon Wooley and the 3 urchins were fantastic and the design was great. I was just very disapointed with the 3 leading players.
People have been posting they don't like Oklahoma, Kiss Me Kate and The Music Man. It's very understanable. Oklahoma is a bit dated, but still it is a great look at what was leading up to the testiment of Oscar Hammerstein's brilliance, Carousel. The score is also very nice. Kiss Me Kate is very sophistocated and also has topical themes, but dated jokes. I still love it anyway. And cynics of course, HATE Music Man, which I think is brilliant. (and I'm a bit cynical.) It was just creative, funny and moving. I like all three, but it's understandable why people don't like them. And with the exception of the dancing, Andrea Martin and Shuler Hensley, I agree with the people who didn't like the 2002 Oklahoma! revival.
Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but anyone who thinks Oklahoma is the worst musical ever obviously hasn't had to sit through very many musicals.
"Miss Saigon"!!! If they had handed me her prop gun I would have shot her LONG before the helicopter even landed! This just goes to show you, Even a HELICOPTER cannot save such a stinkeroo!! The second worst was the revival of "DREAMGIRLS" in '87, It was the "Budget Production"! No frills, No NUTHIN'!!

Ok I had seen brooklyn and afterwards I suddenly had gotten this feeling. "Hmm what could it be". Just so happened that 'feeling' was the first time I ever found a musical that I had seen that I just totally did not like at all. Other than Raven and Once upon a time, Ramona Keller, and the costumes, I just felt that the show sucked badly. Other than that, I really enjoyed all the shows I have seen, but felt that compared to the rest I have seen, Steel Magnolias and Chicago were not satisfying at either for me
ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT, THE SMELL OF THE CROWD--yes, the cast album is nice, but try watching the damned show.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC--a barrel of sticky-sweet platitudes.
PASSION--almost as sappy as SOUND OF MUSIC, only darker and more pointless. I love Sondheim as well or better than any of you, but this is a two-and-a-half hour cup of arsenic, with no applause breaks (who would applaud?) and no intermission (who would come back?) I never understood why it beat BEAUTY AND THE BEAST for best musical that year; it's the same story, with a much more derivative score. The only time in my life I've actually agreed with the old bluehaired matinee ladies who walked out grumbling.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."
GAAAA! Copacabana. I haven't seen it or heard anything from it, but sometimes you can just smell a stinker from three websites away. I happen to ardently collect posters from stinky musicals, so I went on a search for a Copacabana poster. Usually, I can pick these posters up cheap from somewhere trying to Clearance them out of their inventory, but Barry Manilow has taken all of the Copa posters (from what I can find) and SIGNED THEM ALL. They are now only for sale on his website at $200 a pop. EGOMANIACAL FREAK!!!! Hahahahaha.
As for MY least fav musical, definitely Jeckyl and Hyde. P.U.
And no one grew into anything new, we just became the worst of what we were."
I'm with you parrdox_error, EUREKA! the musical with THE HISTORY OF AUSTRALIA THE MUSICAL a very close second. Honorable mentions must of course go to those tiresome shows CHESS and MISS SAIGON.
C is for Company, yes i did, 3 times. I rather enjoyed that. but Copa was just a trainwreck. who let barry manilow write musical theatre? cause whoever did should be shot.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.
