I realize that it's behind the umbrella...but man, that's a quick change nonethelss. Is it put on over the other dress? Doesn't seem like it. Hmm. I'm seeing it August 25th, I will figure it out...somehow...
Of course it is over the other dress.
I'm just asking because the dress she puts on seems relatively smaller...Sh I'm not as idiotic as you may think.

One particular thing for me was the scene changes in Faith Healer. I think I have them figured out, but they were ingenious.
I agree the Dracula one! it was awesome. I like Javert's suicide too. I was 8 so I didn't get it. now I do.

Regarding Dracula: if you're talking about the scene where he walks into the pit, it is a trapdoor. It opens and he just plops in, landing on, more or less, a giant pillow.

She's 73 (I think) has screws in one leg from a car accident and she still dances just as good as she used to.
Plus in Chicago when people don't realize that Mary Sunshine is a man. How could you not tell?
I'm sorry if my choices are a little odd.

i never could firgure it out either, is it like magic where your attention is somewhere else?
*Spoiler*
Sutton Costume Changes.
If you go to my photo bucket look at photos 1-4.
Picture 1. That is the first thing that is put on.
Picture 2. The pink dress is worn over the red and under the yellow. In pick 3 you see how it is baggy above the waist, that is where the "skirt" part of the pink dress sits. Look at the inside of the umbrella. See how one side is darker that is where the yellow dress is. If you look directly across from it you can see the openning where she slides the dress in.
Picture 3. The man behind sutton un zips her as the umbrella comes down and undoes her magnets. She pulls the dress over her head and shoves it in the pouch.
Picture 4. You can see the magnets at the shoulder straps.
At the beginning of "Show Off" Sutton wears the white, the yellow, the pink, the red. This whole effect is a costumer thinking on his toes.

James2- I TOTALLY forgot about Faith Healer. One second the set was one thing, and then 3 seconds later BAM. Totally different. How do you think they did it? They couldn't have been on some sort of rail system, seeing as how the set seemed to be scattered around the stage, not just in one area... Updated On: 8/13/06 at 09:39 PM

On one of those magic tricks revealed shows the "masked magician" showed how the trick is done. It had to do with the cloak he was wearing, a dummy, a trap door, and a fake head! I wish I could remember exactly how it was done! It was amazing when it all happened together onstage though!
Practically everything Michael Crawford did in "Barnum"!
the witch's transformation in into the woods and the beast's in beauty and the beast (but vanessa williams explained to me how they did it lol)
chopping off the body parts in spamalot
hmmm that's all i can think of, but i'm sure i had others lol
When I did Beauty and the Beast we had a double and the actual Beast would change makeup and costume behind a fairly large tower and do his lines from there.
The Lord of the Rings has many 'how did they do that?' moments. Come see it before September 3rd!
I was astounded by Chip in BATB when he is on the tray.

Tag- what are you talking about? Its already closed. In June.
both of the witches transformations (obc and revival) got me. though i didnt really like the revival vannessa williams transformation was just like ...woah. then my friend whose a dresser showed us how they did it backstage.
i actually always wondered how Bernadette transformed into the attractive witch. Never occured to me that the ugly witch was a double. The only other thing that ever made me wonder was how Barbara Walsh used to rip the apron in the same spot every performance during "I'm Breaking Down" in Falsettos. I asked her one day. It was velcro which I'm sure everyone else knew but somehow never occured to me.
In the musical 'Our House' in London, the narrative splits Sliding Doors style into two different strands - the lead wears white in one and black in the other. There were several points where the narrative crossed over - at the end of the first act when you thought he was on a bridge high above the stage he appeared down stage. In the second act, he disappeared behind a couple of umbrellas for literally two seconds and changed from a white tracksuit into a black suit. Both switches were seamless and often got applause.
