I don't like how the backing for Today 4 U sounds. Other than that I love it.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Everything is just amazing. Adam sounds really...hoarse. Gah. I wish I didn't say that. He sounds so much more...mature, though. So much more more emotional.
I was literally just GASPING. I cannot wait...blah. Stupid...RENT..site.
And thank you for finding out how to work the scroll bar! I was clicking on the little arrows and thinking, "Go. DOWN!"

but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.

I like the new arrangement of Life support, but I'm not wild about Gordon (he is starting to grow on me though). Also the music is too quiet (that is probably the clip quality though)for the song.
I've got some mixed reactions, I really liked life support and santa fe. Out tonight sounds cool, but like you could actually hear it on the radio. I hate glory. I don't know what the hell they did on today 4 u. Oh well, i'm sure things will take adjusting to and they are crappy streams so I'm sure the overall finished product will be better.
I finally got it. Okay, Adam has really got the ex-junkie down, but i think it sounds really bad. He sort of reminds me of a person who can't sing going up infront of a big crowd and is embarrassed a lot. Rosario is so so so good! Out Tonight is so good. Today 4 U? It sounds like a conga line song or something. At first I hated it, but after listening to it a couple of times, I sort of like it. Light My Candle was okay. Life Support was the best. The new harmony sounds so good. Does anybody know who is Gordon in the movie? He is so good. Will I? is awsome too. Maybe, the part in the trailer when Angel takes off his wig, is the part when he sing the Will I? solo. I am excited to see what the movie is going to turn out like. Can't wait!
"Life Support" seems to have been extended, which I like. "One Song Glory" sounds a little odd, but perhaps more in character than the original recording. Adam is in fine form everywhere else. Rosario is amazing. I can see her getting some recognition for the vocals but obviously can't speak to other aspects of the performance yet. I'm also glad they opted to showcase Taye Diggs' vocal talents through "You'll See" rather than turn the song into dialogue (well I am now... not sure of how literal lines "what happened to Benny, what happened to his heart" will play out on screen). The only voice that isn't showcased is Idina's, which is just wrong...
I think Adam sounds fine in One Song Glory, it's the new arrangement of the song that bother me the most. Tracie also sounds great. And I love Jesse in Santa Fe.
I'm not too sure about One Song Glory, since I love the original recording so much. It sounds like they tried to stylize it too much, when the original is so raw and minimalistic to me. I do not agree with the change at all. It lost a lot of the emotional impact for me that way.
My favorites are Out Tonight, Life Support and Will I.
Personally I wanted Will I? to be the trailer song, NOT Seasons of Love, which is really generic. Will I? gets behind the heart of the show of why "Seasons of Love" is so important. Having people run around hugging and kissing means nothing if you don't show the hardships they take to get there. It just looks like fluff otherwise. The insecurities expressed in Will I? are some of the most emotional in the whole show, and it encompasses a lot of what Rent is about and its reflective of all the characters. JMO though.
Oh, and the Gordon is Wayne Wilcox. He did Piazza in Chicago and has been on Gilmore Girls.
And another note--don't be too quick to make final judgements. We probably need to see the video footage that goes along with this soundtrack before we really decide if it's appropriate or not.

After listening to these clips I literally jumped out of my seat, ran down two flights of stairs, and made my mom listen to them with me.
Even though it pains me to say it, I really didn't like the way Adam sounded. However, it may just be because I'm so in love with how he sounds on the cast recording that I can't open myself up to a new interpretation of it. It is growing on me, and my mom likes it.
I was really worried about Rosario because of the poor reviews some of the members on this board have been giving her singing voice in VERONA. I was blown away. I think she sounds great! I love the way she sounds in Light My Candle.
I agree with whoever said that You'll See sounds a little too calm. Maybe when we see them on screen there will be more emotion to it. I mean, like others have stated, it is just a 30 second recording.
I personally loved Life Support. I am a big fan of Wayne Wilcox. I was thrilled to hear that he had been cast and I think he sounds amazing.
I also love the way Jesse sounds in Sante Fe. Very sexy.
Sorry if this has been too long, but I'm just really excited!
I'm just itching to know if Wilson will be doing any singing in the film's "Act 2." He has such a beautiful voice... given that some of the songs have been extended and roles switched to showcase talents, any chance we'll still get to hear him after La Vie Boheme (or Seasons of Love) if Contact doesn't make it into the film in any way?
The compression and distortion Marquise mentioned plus my truly crappy computer speakers makes this hard for me to listen to. I hope it's more my speakers, because it would be too bad if people unfamiliar with the show hear the songs for the first time like I just did! I'll listen next week at work and hope for better sound.
EEEK! I thought everything sounded great. I love how the music is different from the obc recording but not so different as to be unrecognizable. This is very exciting! Can't wait for the soundtrack to be released! Oh, Rosario sounds amazing!:)

You also have to remember that the film has a lot to do with how the songs are presented. This isn't a cast album, so all the emotion won't be relied on the tracks. There's facial expression, body language, and so on.
In regards to the tracks, I think they are all amazing. With One Song Glory, towards the end of the song is more emotion-filled, and you can hear that in Adam's voice. He is still Roger, and this proves that. I have completely forgotten my worries about Rosario, and this reassures it. Her voice is so pure, so raw. Looove it. The backing to Today 4 U is a little odd, but it's growing on me. I think the difference in You'll See is it's more conversational, which is in no way a problem, and they're less mad and more .. annoyed? Tracie sounds phenomenal. Everyone else sounds exactly they way I hoped they would. Amazing.
I think they maybe didn't showcase Idina because all the Broadway fans know what she sounds like? Who knows.
I looove it. Wow, this was long. *shrugs* I was overly excited.
I agree with you entirely, almostxfamous. That was what I was trying to say when I said that you really have to see the footage along with hearing the soundtrack, otherwise, you're only getting part of the deal.
Personally, I absolutely adore how Adam sounds. In fact, I think all the voices are in top form...

Lounge music!!! hilarious! it sucks that Glory is the song that is causing such discussion; it's such a classic that I would've hoped they didn't do too much to change the style/arrangement. but we are all open to the new ideas, so that's good.
WOW!!! Thank you to whoever provided the link, the clips weren't on the official site when I looked. I think everything sounded AMAZING considering they are crappy 30 second clips. I think Adam sounds just like he's supposed to: a rocker who's had a rough life. Light My Candle is increadible! It almost sounds more like the NYTW version than the OBC...too cool! I adore Rosarios voiice...i'm sorry some people are shell-shgocked and dissapointed, but i'm bursting with happiness!!
