alright... I really wanted to be blown away by these recordings, but i'm not...
the biggest problem i'm having is the instrumentation, its all WAY too polished, and sounds almost like it all came from a cheap keyboard/synthesizer and not actual instruments, I really hope it only comes across this way because it is a short clip on my computer.
Secondly, Rosario sounds fine on Light My Candle, i don't think her voice is particularly special (from this small clip) but from Out Tonight, her voice just isn't strong enough to carry such a heavy guitar based song [especially compared to DRV who could probably sing over six guitars]
i'm hoping the One Song Glory clip was mainly a character choice for Adam... and I hope he rocks it out at the end, and I think he will, so i won't worry about that
and everyone else sounds fantastic, especially Life Support and Will I? I think Jesse L. Martin is in particularly good voice, and I do sympathize with Wilson Jermaine Heredia (again from this clip) becuase he sounds really good, but the Today 4 U instrumentation sounds especially horrendous
I really hope i'm proven wrong when this full recording comes out... so we'll see
As I said before, on my computer at least, these are playing at the lowest of low fi. I doubt if this is a valid representation of how the instrumentation sounds. Also, OSG sounded inexplicably speeded up to me.
Are these the final cuts that will be on the soundtrack, or are they just rough tracks that will be spruced up before the soundtrack is produced?
I must say that I just about fell out of my chair when I heard there were sound clips... but after listening to them I must say that, save for a few bright spots, what I am feeling most is ...disappointment. Much of it just sounds cheap and emotionless, especially Glory and You'll See. I know you have to see the movie to see how the acting corresponds to the music... but don't forget that what is on the soundtrack is exactly how it will sound in the film. These are the exact tracks that will appear in the film. I'm just worried that if it sounds emotionless... I don't know. Maybe I'm overreacting to these short, crappy clips. I hope to God that they are just distorted from being compressed ot that they aren't the final clips.
That being said... I LOVE LOVE LOVE how Rosario sounds, especially on Out Tonight! FAB-U-LOUS! And the guitar arrangement sounds kick ass!
Life Support also sounds gorgeous! The new arrangement is beautiful.
Jesse sounds fab on Santa Fe.
The accompaniment for Today 4 U is incredibly cheesy... not a fan of that much.
You'll see is just way to mellow. They all sound like they're just singing it. There's no feeling.
I don't like the accompaniment on Tango Maureen, but I think Anthony and especially Tracie both sound lovely!
But for me the biggest disappointment is Glory. On the OBCR it just sounds so raw and full of emotion... and here it's just bland and soulless. I hope I'm wrong, because it's my favorite song.

Someone told me they thought Adam sounds bad; I think he just sounds.... really emotional. The new orchestrations are huge, and... I guess it's just going to be something to get used it. I definitely don't hate them, it's just.... whoa.
Does anyone else think that Adam sounds like David Bowey(sp?)!? OMG!!! I'm SOOO WORRIED! And Rosario doesnt have much power in her voice. I'll stop with my negitivity, theres to much of it on this board. I'm just scared to death now...

I get more and more curious as to whether Wilson or Jesse will receive the most recognition for his performance. It seems to me that the character of Angel will be considered more "interesting" but Jesse will have more opportunities to shine on film - especially with the "addition" of his solo and "subtraction" of Contact. Also, I'm seeing a lot of posts here and on other forums about how great Jesse's voice is... Updated On: 8/19/05 at 11:36 PM
I think Adam sounds emotional, as well. I don't understand the commentary on how it sounds flat and emotionless...

in Life Support, that's actually one of my favorite/most meaningful lines in the play.

but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.

I just got done watching "Laberyth"(sp?) in a class, and in my opinion Adam sounds JUST like David Bowie.

You know guys, the audio clips seem to be coming out MONO on my player, which makes the sound quality and orchestrations pretty crappy. I am sure that it will sound phenominal in surround sound.

i think they just tried to add some variety to "one song glory". i always felt the original was a little boring, and it seems like they tried to give this one more highs and lows. at the end you can hear the guitars really kick in. same for some of the others.
and Out Tonight kicks flippin ass, i really hoped they would rock out on that one and they did.

Ditto
I have worked myself up so much for this, that I simply CANT be disappointed in anything. I love the clips...I will love the recording....I will love the movie...I guess it is a subconsious thing where I have been SO looking forward to this, that to be let down would be too much for me to bear! :)
And, does anyone else think the voices sound really exposed--in a good way, that makes them come off as very pure? I guess it is because, since it's a movie recording, they fixed impurities. I notice it especially in Will I?...
And I love how at the end of the Glory clip, you can tell it is about to rock.
