Yes, that's what I heard as well.  I heard a rumor that Beauty and the Beast will open it up.

Hmmmmmmmmm haven't heard about Beauty and the Beast reopening the Palace but I'll have to ask around and see??????

Now I know this is just a rumor - I heard today that it sounds likely Barbra will in fact be reopening the Palace. With a string of shows (something like 4 a week for 12 weeks). A retrospective of her career (coinciding with the release of her memoir) and take place in 2024. These will serve as her “adieu” to the concert setting.   
 

Take it for what it’s worth. I don’t know if they are in negotiations or where the offer is at. (I myself am not sold entirely. But the source was confident it would be announced in the coming months).   But I think that would be a brilliant swan song

odd they'd have a play reopen the Palace. if this is going there. I could see this going elsewhere.

I would have totally thought that Dear England would go somewhere small, namely the Golden. But, apparently it's playing a 1,700 seat theatre on the West End? Is it really that big of a show or that popular?

I have such a hard time imagining the Nederlanders reopening the Palace with a random English play. I think they know that this has the power to be a big event and that Dear England would be them giving up that power unless they have some sort of MEGAstar attached (FWIW, it does say they have 4 roles cast already, so I suppose this is possible).

If Dear England is going to go to a big theatre, I'd guess the Shubert. It seems unlikely that either of that theatre's rumored future tenants will make it in this season and it's also been theorized that the Shuberts don't like leaving the Shubert empty for long periods of time.

You’re right, it seems so odd they would want this to open up the palace. I would have thought they would have wanted to do something big with a superstar like Barbra Streisand, or a flashy musical like Beauty and the Beast.

It’s it completely out of the ordinary - the New Amsterdam reopened in May 1997 with the oratorio King David, which only ran for about a week. The Lion King wouldn’t move in until the fall.

If you watch the trailer for it, it does seem like a big show. The set looks rather complicated too with lots of elevators and moving pieces. I love British shows because they tend to be tech heavy. So, it makes sense it needs a big space. Will the audience care? I don't know.

From an audience size perspective, they should look at a reasonably sized theater and it absolutely has the potential to be a flash-in-the-pan, contained hit. It's a pretty good play.

The Barbra rumors of her playing The Palace, Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, etc....have been around for many, many decades now.  Yes, Barbra's Manager said several years ago that he would love for her to play there.  

We'll revisit this thread in a year or so and get a good chuckle about it, from when it didn't happen.

Barbra has said in interviews promoting her new book that she hopes to never do live concerts again. I think we can cross her off the speculation list.
