Drowsy Chaperone
Rent
Anyone else have any they care to name?
THE SOUND OF MUSIC. God, I loathe it so much. What a sugary, obnoxiously cheery, overlong torture session that musical is. Why anybody likes it or has the time to sit through it over and over is beyond me. It's like the Austrian version of The Brady Bunch with out the ironic, postmodern nostalgia.
Spring Awakening
The Color Purple ~ even WITH Fantasia. or maybe especially with her.
I'd say Company but I know it's just not my thing, so I don't necessarily think it's overrated.
I agree: Spring Awakening
And don't kill me for this but: Les Miserables
Spring Awakening
Spamalot
Cats
Spring Awakening - I was never interested in seeing this show, and am sorry that I caved into the raving reviews and bought a ticket.
While I enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Rent, Wicked, and Jersey Boys, I don't think they live up to all the hype they get.
I liked SA but did not think it deserved a few of its Tony's most notably choreography or, in their case, jumping up & down
I like Curtains more
Wicked!!! WAY overrated
Spring Awakening - I liked it, but it's still overrated

i don't think "drowsy" was overrated, it was not popular enough to be considered OVERrated!!! It was rated. justly, i believe. :)

I certainly won't kill you for it. I fully respect your opinion, but being the Les Mis fanatic that I am, I'm just curious as to what you don't like about it. I'm honestly just curious, and I would never show disrespect for your opinion.
I'd say SA but it's been stated here several times, so I'll say Lion King. Not a bad musical, but it is truly overrated. Just a very mediocre musical with too many bells and whistles.

I love how you say that Wicked is overrated but yet your screen name has to do with Wicked.

spamalot.
That year's best musical should be Light in the piazza.
Piazza DEFINITELY should have won that year. Spamalot was fun, but not best musical.
Mamma Mia was a HUGE disappointment for me . . . I just don't understand how it continues to hang in there.
Rent: Should have closed Off Broadway
The King and I :Apart from the wonderful "Shall We Dance" and when it is staged right, is one of the most beautful moments in Broadway History.
Bugsy Malone
Oliver
Joseph
Disagree with King & I
Ragtime was a better musical than Lion King

It's not that I don't think it's good. I think it's great. It's just that I didn't see what all of the fuss was about when it came to the music. I must have very odd tastes in musicals, because I enjoyed the music of "The Pirate Queen" more than Les Mis. Maybe it's just because I couldn't get into it. (Granted I think the story is fantastic, I just didn't like a lot of the music.)
Rent - really just not that great.
Starlight Express (for the British anyway) - truly not one of Lloyd Webber's top 5 in my opionion
Wicked - VERY GOOD show, but where would it be without all the fans?
