I've seen 47 "Best Picture" films. Choosing 5 is difficult.

I'm interpreting "favorite" to mean a film I enjoy so much, I can watch it again and again. [As opposed to "best," where I would rank SCHINDLER'S LIST way at the top. Wouldn't want to see it "again and again" though.]

Top 5 Favorites:
1) West Side Story
2) Forrest Gump
3) Titanic
4) The Departed
5) Chicago

Least Favorites:
1) Gladiator
2) Ben-Hur
3) The Bridge of the River Kwai
4) Dances With Wolves
5) The Hurt Locker

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Favorite-In no order

1. Chicago
2. The Sound of Music
3. Rocky
4. West Side Story
5. Forrest Gump

This one was hard because there is only 1 movie that I've seen that I didn't like. So, I actually only really dislike 1 movie on this list. I guess I should add that I also have not seen a lot of these movies, so my lists were limited to begin with.

Least Favorite:
1. Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King
2. Titanic
3. The Apartment
4. Gigi
5. Million Dollar Baby

West Side Story

Least Favorites -

LOTR : Return of the King
Braveheart
Million Dollar Baby
The Hurt Locker

Oh, that is hard. Good question, besty!

Allow the absence of your favorite movies to be indications I haven't seen it/them yet.

FAVORITE:
1. Schindler's List
2. Amadeus
3. Forrest Gump
4. Casablanca
5. The Apartment

(Also considered: All Quiet on the Western Front, On the Waterfront, West Side Story, The Sting, Platoon, Rain Man.)

LEAST FAVORITE
1. Gentleman's Agreement
2. The Godfather, Part II
3. Driving Miss Daisy
4. No Country for Old Men
5. Gladiator (which is where I get to films I still like, but is least among liked.)

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

rosscoe(au), I usually agree with you, but couldn't disagree more that no Best Picture winner since 1991 has been a worthy winner. I think it's important to recognize the great work that is being done today.

Happy to see some love for SHAKESPERARE IN LOVE in the "Favorite" category. Also, how could I forget how much I hate and despise FORREST GUMP? Editing my choices to add that in right now.

I've made it a point over the past few years to see all of these. Picking 5 faves is near impossible, but:

FAVORITE
The Return of the King
Grand Hotel
The Life of Emile Zola
All About Eve
The Last Emperor

Picking my 5 least fave was actually pretty easy:

LEAST FAVORITE
Gigi
The English Patient
The Hurt Locker
Crash
Dances with Wolves
