FAVORITE:
1. "Gone With the Wind"
2. "The Sound of Music"
3. "All About Eve"
4. "Amadeus"
5. "How Green Was My Valley"
LEAST FAVORITE:
1. "The Hurt Locker"
2. "The Departed"
3. "Slumdog Millionaire"
4. "No Country For Old Men"
5. "Platoon"
I've seen 47 "Best Picture" films. Choosing 5 is difficult.
I'm interpreting "favorite" to mean a film I enjoy so much, I can watch it again and again. [As opposed to "best," where I would rank SCHINDLER'S LIST way at the top. Wouldn't want to see it "again and again" though.]
Top 5 Favorites:
1) West Side Story
2) Forrest Gump
3) Titanic
4) The Departed
5) Chicago
Least Favorites:
1) Gladiator
2) Ben-Hur
3) The Bridge of the River Kwai
4) Dances With Wolves
5) The Hurt Locker
Favorite-In no order
1. Chicago
2. The Sound of Music
3. Rocky
4. West Side Story
5. Forrest Gump
This one was hard because there is only 1 movie that I've seen that I didn't like. So, I actually only really dislike 1 movie on this list. I guess I should add that I also have not seen a lot of these movies, so my lists were limited to begin with.
Least Favorite:
1. Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King
2. Titanic
3. The Apartment
4. Gigi
5. Million Dollar Baby
Stressing these are my favorites, not best, I don't want to lose my standing as an intellectual snob. :)
Favorites -
Titanic
Chicago
The Artist
Annie Hall (controversial?)
West Side Story
Least Favorites -
LOTR : Return of the King
Braveheart
Million Dollar Baby
The Hurt Locker
A Beautiful Mind
(Best12, I thought Oliver! would be in your Top 5!)
Oh, that is hard. Good question, besty!
Allow the absence of your favorite movies to be indications I haven't seen it/them yet.
FAVORITE:
1. Schindler's List
2. Amadeus
3. Forrest Gump
4. Casablanca
5. The Apartment
(Also considered: All Quiet on the Western Front, On the Waterfront, West Side Story, The Sting, Platoon, Rain Man.)
LEAST FAVORITE
1. Gentleman's Agreement
2. The Godfather, Part II
3. Driving Miss Daisy
4. No Country for Old Men
5. Gladiator (which is where I get to films I still like, but is least among liked.)
SO many of these I haven't seen so it's hard to choose, but my choices for this date are:
Favorite:
IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
ALL ABOUT EVE

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (Sorry, everyone. I think its overrated)
KRAMER VS. KRAMER

rosscoe(au), I usually agree with you, but couldn't disagree more that no Best Picture winner since 1991 has been a worthy winner. I think it's important to recognize the great work that is being done today.

Worst and Best is much different than Favorite and Least Favorite... I think many lists, including mine, would be different if it were the former.
True. I changed that on mine.
In no particular order:

Fun thread. Kind of difficult to narrow it down to just 5 on each, but I believe in playing by the rules. Here they are in no particular order:
FAVORITE:
No Country for Old Men
Million Dollar Baby
Amadeus
Midnight Cowboy
My Fair Lady
LEAST FAVORITE:
Titanic
The King's Speech
Lord of the Rings
Gladiator
On the Waterfront (not kidding)
Jay, it was tough to keep it to five. Oliver! would be right up there, for sure. So would West Side Story and (believe it or not) Titanic.
I've made it a point over the past few years to see all of these. Picking 5 faves is near impossible, but:
FAVORITE
The Return of the King
Grand Hotel
The Life of Emile Zola
All About Eve
The Last Emperor
Picking my 5 least fave was actually pretty easy:
LEAST FAVORITE
Gigi
The English Patient
The Hurt Locker
Crash
Dances with Wolves
favorite:
All About Eve
two Billy Wilder masterpieces: The Apartment and The Lost Weekend
The Godfather Part II (a masterpiece that won over another masterpiece, Chinatown)
Oliver! (a complete pleasure, and the most underrated oscar winning best picture)
interesting fact: only two movies have won both the best picture oscar and the top honor at Cannes. One is The Lost Weekend, the other Marty.
hon mention: Terms of Endearment
least favorite:
Titanic
The English Patient
Braveheart
The Greatest Show on Earth
Crash
dishon mentions: Gladiator, Forest Gump, Out of Africa
