Off the AP newswire: "Jennifer Wilbanks has made a deal with a company that is pitching a movie about her life to networks"
I think this is fantastic. I think ss soon as that check clears, she should pay back the police for the man hours involved in her false kidnapping and rape. She should also pay back any money lost by her fiance and family due to this incident. She shouldn't be "rewarded" for her behavior...
Like she needs more of her 15 minutes of fame? This only encourages more people to "create" their own celebrity by doing stupid (and might I mention ILLEGAL) things.
I'm all for stories about real people and the obstacles they overcome or fighting against natural disasters and the like - but this? No thanks.
Agreed. But the way the reality craze has been going, this was pretty much inevitable, don't you think?

It's the media that is to blame. If people like us would begin to let advertisers know that we are not happy with what we see, then they would change their content.
After the Survivor wedding show, no - nothing is a surprise. My issue isn't so much the actual movie, but that she stands to profit from an incident which cost others, tax payers, etc thousands of dollars on a hoax.

And isn't she doing an interview with Katie Couric sometime this week? They were really hyping it during L&O last night.
"Reality craze."
There is no reality.
she should not be allowed to profit, until she has paid back all monies owed, including wages to people who spent time looking for her
Elphaba - exactly my point
Isn't there already a movie about a runaway bride called...um...what was it? Oh yeah--RUNAWAY BRIDE.
She paid back what she was asked to pay back, so if she can make a buck off this, why not?
Some moron scraped her face on a piece of toast and made thousands off of that, no one complained....
Why would she WANT her story put forth?
"This is the story of how -- at a time in our history when Americans are particularly aware of and sensitive to kidnappings -- rather than sit down and tell my seemingly reasonable and decent fiancee that I didn't want to marry him I concocted a ridiculous story about being kidnapped and raped that distracted local authorities and the FBI from spending their time trying to help real people who needed them.
That's my story. I hope you like it."
There's a difference between making a buck off of soemthing you created (no matter how crappy it might be) and making money off of something that cost others thousands of dollars. Also, I believe people did complain about that toast :)
Furthermore, she certainly did NOT pay back the police departments for their man hours. She might have assisted with monies related to the wedding, but not creating the (wo)manhunt.
But aren't u curious about who they'd cast as the bug-eyed bride?
I can imagine phone calls to agents, "hey, ______ has really disturbingly big eyes, we think she'd be perfect for this role.
Hasn't this woman had more than her 15 min of fame yet? Glad she paid back SOME of the money to the authorities but when I heard her say that it really wasn't cold feet in terms of her not wanting to marry the guy but just that she HAD SO MUCH TO DO and she was down to one day to get her manicure etc. Can you believe this guy still wants to marry her?
She needs an entire TEAM of therapists and we need to move on and pay attention to the important news issues instead of some vapid, empty brained dumbo with a vivid imagination and no idea of the real problems in this world.
I won't be tuning into this particular made for TV fiasco, thanks.
Oh, you cynics, come on. I mean, how exciting.
After all, the story is such a nail-biter. You'll sit there watching everyone wring their hands and weep, and fret over the girl who may be dismembered or sold as a sex slave in Peru, or end up with amnesia thinking she's the mother of boy staying at Neverland or something. And then, in the powerful third act of the film -- my guess, directed by Jonathan Demme -- it will be revealed that it was all a sick hoax. (Somebody real interestin' will play Katie Couric interviewing her -- it'll be done in one take, like "My Man" in FUNNY GIRL. Yeah, just like that.) Oh, come on, admit what a gripping story it is. I mean come on, people, we'll stand up and cheer and line up to see it again.
Oh you're all so unkind. Cynicism. Killing this country. I tell you.
Comming soon to the great white way:

What do we think the name of the movie is going to be? My vote: Uhm.. Actually, I was going to point out her eyes, but one, I can't come up with anything clever, and two, I hsouldn't be making fun of people's eyes. :: Bashes own eyes. ::
She should be allowed to make as much money as what the idiots are willing to pay her. It's a free country. Now, if someone want to bring a civil suit against her to collect monies owed, then so be it. It's a free country.
Geez....if only Marty Feldman were still alive.
(I can't believe I even thought that!)

How sad, but I suspect there's no amount of money to cover the anguish and torment loved ones must have gone through.
