2018 Tony Eligibility Rulings, Round #4 (FINAL)

Glaringly obvious from these rulings: there needs to be a projection design category.

Erika Henningsen and Taylor Louderman will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for their respective performances in Mean Girls.
Scott Pask, Finn Ross & Adam Young will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category for their work on Mean Girls.
Renée Fleming will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical category for her performance in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel.
Lauren Ambrose and Harry Hadden-Paton will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in My Fair Lady.
Jamie Parker will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category for his performance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two.
LaChanze will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category for her performance in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.
Robert Brill and Sean Nieuwenhuis will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Musical category for their work on Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.
Condola Rashad will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play category for her performance in Saint Joan.
Chloe Lamford and Tim Reid will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Scenic Design of a Play category for their work on 1984.

Does this mean that Harry Potter is or isn't eligible for score? (I don't know how defaults/petitions work for the non-acting categories...)

That means Norbert Leo Butz will be up for Best Actor in a Featured Role, right? I saw My Fair Lady last week and he was amazing as Alfred Doolittle and probably has a great shot to winning his third Tony!

Now I can officially say I have some Q's that need A's...
I understand there aways some grey area in determining certain eligibility such as Heap's score for HP, whether Taylor would be considered for lead or featured depending on Erika's eligibility. I guess Heap wasn't discussed at this final ruling? If it isn't discussed (or anything of a similar grey area nature) does that mean it's just..out of the running or what? And then there's the obvious. Jamie eligible as lead. This just seems so DUH to me so why is there a discussion even needed? Noma was never discussed at all...so what does that mean for her? Same with Renee. It's a featured role, why discuss whether it's featured or lead?

Majority of the things discussed were expected. However, the big thing that jumps out to me is that final ruling which states that any category with more than 9 eligible candidates for nomination will receive 5 nominees.
Unless I am mistaken, this means that both Best Play and Best Revival of a Play will have 5 Nominees, as will most of the technical categories.

It's dependant on whether your name is above the title (as is Renee's, so she has to be petitioned down from lead to featured).

For Harry Potter, nobody is above the title, which is why they had to formally designate Jamie Parker as lead. The opposite is true for Renée Fleming in Carousel, who IS listed above the title due to her celebrity, but is of course in a featured role.

But do we know yet whether all the musical revivals will be nominated by default? Or whether they will only nominate 2?

Default category placement for the acting awards is based on billing. If an actor is billed above the title then their default category is "Best Actor/Actress." If they are below the title then the default category is "Featured Actor/Actress."
The nominating committee can sometimes make a determination without a petition. Say Diana Rigg was given above the title billing in My Fair Lady, and Lincoln Center, for whatever reason, didn't send in the petition to have her moved into the Featured Actress category. I can not imagine that the committee would not take it upon themselves to make that ruling. Or if Lincoln Center had not sent the petition to have Lauren Ambrose and Harry Haddon-Patton, both billed below the title, considered for Best Actress/Actor respectively. I would imagine again that the committee would take it upon themselves to make that change.
Most producers, however, are smart enough to not rely on the committee making that determination on their own and submit the proper petitions, even if it does seem like a "duh" move.

The category is actually Best Score Written for the Theatre, so I believe any original score written for a play would be eligible by default.
And it is way past time for the Tonys to have a Projection category.

So there will be five Best Play and and five Best Revival of a Play nominees.
I assume that Imogen Heap is eligible then if she is credited with original music in the play.

As for the music for HP, of course it can/will be considered....it doesn't need to be petitioned to be considered. There have previously been nominees for score from play. (don't remember if any have actually won)

re score, Kad is correct. The only score rulings are when there is an issue about the amount of new music.

I counted 12 eligible Leading Actors in Play, but that is interesting, there will only be four nominees for Leading Actress in a Play and as expected in Lead Actor in a Musical.

I think the eligibility is due to the fact that, apparently, not all of the music is originally written by Heap for the play. The percentage is what matters for this case.

OHHHHH...interesting...I learned something new today LOLZ. So Renee had to be petitioned down...okie dokie. I mean, yeah I know she's billed above the title, but the role itself is still not a lead. Award rulings are weird, yo. And everyone else in HP would be considered for featured at this point?
What about the non acting ones, aka Heap and Hogget...I never thought I'd want a PLAY to win score and choreo this badly...
EDIT-Didn't see the above responses quick enough lolz. Gotcha. Yeah, I really don't know what percentage of what is used in HP is new or not.
