I don't think that was a great song choice for Maybe Happy Ending.
Did I miss something? Did they give out Best Play before Best Director of A Play?

Don't pay this racist any more mind, all. Let's focus on the good of the night. F*ck off, whoever you are!
Maybe Happy Ending without their set .... eh.
MHE… Zzzzzzzzzz
And I’m rooting for it to win.

Was surprised they didnt do something to feature both of them. Hilty flubbed a line, and the dog catch at the end seemed out of place- i wonder if this was a late change?
I enjoyed the MHE performance, but agree with Jesse Green's take (which is somewhat of a rare thing for me to say):
“Never Fly Away” looked lovely enough in that excerpt from “Maybe Happy Ending” — but it is overwhelmingly beautiful in the actual staging at the Belasco Theater. See it there.

Total mystery. The scene in the show itself is beautiful but the song like the rest of the score is completely underwhelming.

Dude, everyone knows you hated MHE.

Good. They don’t want u there
What an odd song choice for MHE. I’ve heard from a few folks how special the firefly scene is, and I have to assume that wasn’t how it’s presented in the show because it was sort of nothing. Cute, but not a great showcase for what is ostensibly the frontrunner for Best Musical after its early wins.

I’ve seen all the nominees and honestly, other than Sunset Blvd., there hasn’t been a single performance yet that hasn’t had me wondering why they made THAT choice. Maybe Happy Ending, Just in Time, and Pirates in particular could have done so much better.

F**k you, Asswipe.
This excerpt isn't selling me on Floyd Collins ...

i loved Maybe Happy Ending but its magic was the complete sum of its parts- its score is underwhelming on its own, and that performance did it no favors in that regard.
if the Tonys were actually about merit, Score would have gone to Yazbeck or the brilliant minds at Mincemeat, which is no dig at the wonder that is MHE.

Agreed that wasn’t very good

I think Buena Vista Social Club chose well, but I agree about the rest. I sound like a broken clock, but a performance from Boop! would have been better than most of the ones we've seen.
I can see why Floyd Collins isn’t selling. Watching Jordan slide along the floor isn’t compelling.
These performances tonight highlight something ive said for a long time - they should be filmed in their own theaters with their own sets and then edited and submitted for broadcast. They’re selling a product, why do they constantly offer a “lesser” quality look at what they’re selling?

Once again, don't hate it. It's just not all that - and even more clear without its set, it's biggest star.

I was very underwhelmed by Floyd Collins, but i thought that was a gorgeous performance actually- and thought that highlighted how powerful Jeremy Jordan is in it.
And I agree that BVSC is the only production that did a nice job picking 4 minutes to sell some tickets.

Agreed. I would’ve given score to Dead Outlaw, book to Mincemeat, Direction and Musical to MHE.
