2026 Tony Awards Performance Predictions (or What Songs They Should and Will Perform)
Posted: 6/2/26 at 1:14pm
CATS is curating a special megamix slightly different from the standard production numbers in order to highlight as many production elements as possible, specifically the choreography and costumes. Elements of both of the aforementioned songs will be included, but it’s very much an evolving number that they’ve been working on for about 2 weeks now.

Oh this is about to be a performance for the history books...I really hope this performance alone is gonna prove that they're gonna win Best Revival of a Musical and that it will run as the iconic promo says "now, and forever"

I think Titanique can and should end with making the audience sing My heart will go on.
I want Two Strangers to do American Express but feel like they’ll do New York/This is the place combo
I really hope Ragtime does New Music

Yes, I would love for them to do "New Music", but I think Two Strangers will absolutely do "New York" because it's catchy as hell and obviously quite fitting for the occasion.

Ragtime will probably do the end of act 1, no? They’ve already done the opening on GMA, wheels of a dream and back to before have also been done on morning shows.

Doing numbers on previous shows has never stopped them from performing the same numbers at the Tonys

Official: as was to be expected, an original, 7-minute opening number written by Pasek and Paul (with an assist from Marc Shaiman) will kick off this year's ceremony.

I guess this means my unrealistic dreams of a CHESS performance are officially dashed and DOA...

I don't know the show, but whatever song from Two Strangers has the TikTok sound that went viral ("up to Rockafeller") should be what they perform.

PINK will be apart of the CHICAGO performance along with Queen Latifah and several other stars.

I assume they'll do whatever they think will sell the most tickets for the tour. Which is probably the prologue. I'm ok with that, as it remains, in my opinion, one of the greatest opening numbers of all time.

I CALLED IT!!!! Now the question is will it be a fly-show or a no-fly show for P!nk during this opening number?

I have to imagine they'll do some flying bit with her and the Lost Boys, right?

Only if they manage to incorporate some of the cast members from all of the nominated shows in costume into this performance which if so (despite the fact that its been done before) would be extremely impressive

I don’t understand why more shows don’t do their opening numbers. It is the best way to introduce a musical to people who haven’t seen it.

An edited version of Endgame with the whole Chess cast involved would have been so much more interesting and a moment than whatever Rocky Horror will do.
Also re the 7 minute opening, Bryce is doing a take over of The Wing IG account today and teased a secret involvement at the Tony awards where he had a rehearsal today and I saw one ensemble member post a pic on their IG stories outside Radio City today so we may get a tiny bit of Chess.

This opening is supposedly going to feature over 170 different broadway performers...so something tells me this opening is gonna top NPH's "Bigger" opening back in 2013

Ragtime should have Ben Levi Ross introduce a medley of "Our Children" leading into the back half of "Wheels of a Dream." That would showcase all their nominees and the songs would be linked by theme.

Pink says she is going to make fun of herself from the very beginning (that she has not done Broadway). She has also mentioned "wires" ... so expecting flying or a parody of Peter Pan Pink.

Ragtime should perform "Till We Reach That Day"

You don't want a giant downer for your Tony showcase.

Correction: Mark Sonnenblick will be assisting Pasek and Paul for this year’s opening number, not Shaiman.

For me, it doesn't matter what the shows perform. I think what's more important is that the director is up to the task of shooting these production numbers in a way that fully honors and captures the performers onstage while also enhancing the energy and excitement that each show brings.

I love everything about that. I love Bryce and his character in Chess, and I love that they've featured his songs on a few talk shows. Such an excellent performer.
