With much of the Broadway Audience made up of tourists this might take some dollars away from Broadway and off-Broadway. Now tourists will be spending one or more nights in the casino instead of a theater.
And it will be another reason for New Yorkers to stay away from the Theater District.
It will also attract a whole new bunch of characters (Ala Damon Runyon) to the Theater District who probably won't care about theater. Anyone for a remake of Guys and Dolls?

I agree with this. Who wants more unruly people in Times Square, especially if they were drinking to the point of being totally zonked? Would we want that in Times Square/the theater district?
I make my way cross-country to NYC for theatre and nothing else. I would not be enticed to enter a Broadway casino. If I want to gamble (and I do very little of that), it's Vegas, Baby !
Are there going to be any theaters or hotels? Just a stand alone hotels seems...tacky.

The conversation around a casino in Times Square reminds us of the dynamic nature of cities and the continuous evolution of urban landscapes. It's a fascinating topic that touches on both economic and cultural aspects, and it will be interesting to see how this idea unfolds and whether it becomes a reality in the heart of New York City. There is no local police, fire, or emt. It is all provided by the casinos, at least they are supposed to provide those services. A casino in New York City won’t need to place their own security forces on the streets, because the NYPD is already there. That doesn’t mean there won’t be increased security in the area. I’m sure if there was a casino there the NYPD would have more cops patrolling that area. On top of that the casino would definitely have their own private security for inside the casino. So, I agree with equity that there would be increased security in the theatre district. As long as it provides more tax revenue for the city, which it should, I don’t see any reason to be against this Casino."
I agree with you. I also don't see anything bad in such a casino. It will for sure provide more security to the area, and more money also. And I think that it will attract even more tourists, but also locals. A lot of people like playing casino games, but not all have a chance to visit an offline one. I don't have a casino in my town, so I play online. Only when I travel to other cities, I can play sometimes. But it's okay because there are so many casinos online nowadays. Some time ago I came across this site https://gamblizard.ca/best-canadian-online-casinos/best-payout-casino/ which helped me out a lot when I was looking for a new casino to play. There is information about a few casinos with fast payout, as well as info about games, and bonuses, and it took me a few minutes to choose the best one. Now I play and enjoy, but still hope that one day I'll be able to visit offline casinos more often.

Times Square has basically been Vegas-lite for decades now so this would really be the cherry on top of the 💩 sundae.
"According to the proposal for 1515 Broadway, the casino would take up eight floors in the building, with 250K SF of gambling space, 950 hotel rooms and a refurbished theater that would become the home of The Lion King."

It would actually make going to anyplace there so much worse. I can see a casino being built on Roosevelt Island in a former train or navy yard type situation but not smack dab in the middle of the city. It would make the area untenable and it's already borderline.
Yea, any new business in the theatre district needs to service broadway. If not, you're out. The Broadway League and Shubert Organization have come out against it. Let's hope thats enough to shut it down. We need less people in times square, not more.
Interestingly, Nederlander has remained quiet on this. I guess they benefit if the theatre gets refurbished? If this gets approved and I were Disney, i'd try scooping up the Mark Hellinger and throw Lion King in there.

Sorry (legit sorry), but i believe this is quite misleading. The large casinos have their own security, fire, emt, et cetera, yes -- and it's all been beefed up considerably after the 2017 mass shooting at The Mirage. (some places better than others, unsurprisingly.) and those services always will be the first to respond to an incident on property. but when they need to they absolutely call in the (robust) emergency services of Clark County ... which services, importantly to your comment, have jurisdiction over the casinos outside the Las Vegas city limits. and, emphatically, "Metro" (as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which serves all of Clark County, is locally known) patrols The Strip vigorously, and does not need to wait to be invited in.
It's surprising that they have not done this before.

A 'real' casino, similar to the casino palaces in AC, Vegas or Monaco would require taking down an entire block and I don't see that happening in Times Square. Otherwise it will just be a glorified bingo hall similar to Resorts World in Queens. (Which is just an extension of the NY Lottery with video slots) So forget it!
It's almost as if there's a proposal with all this information laid out for everybody to read!
It would be sad to see more 'unruly' types run amok, given Times Square's genteel refined past.

What is the theatre in question here?

Will that mean all Broadway shows get cut to 90 minutes?
Pfft, the West End is full of casinos and nobody is whining.

Broadway is more than ten blocks, but either way, a casino will not disrupt the theater scene by any means.
In fact, it has taken a while for other kind of businesses to take a shot at an area with such potential of profitability.
At this point Times Square should've had a casino, a circus, a roller coaster, a concert hall, a sports stadium and a zoo; so count your blessings.
The theatre in question would be the minskoff. That whole building, 1515 broadway is the one they want to turn into a hotel with a casino. Honestly, I wish the Shuberts would start buying up some midtown real estate. They could turn it into an elegant hotel. The Broadway Hotel

1) The Shuberts own PLENTY of midtown real estate.
2) The last thing that midtown needs is more hotels rooms. Of the ones that remain and didn't shut down during Covid, many are still being rented out to NYC as migrant and/or homeless shelters (and NYC is paying handsomely for those rooms -- easily 2-3x the "rack rate").

A look at Atlantic City tells you the objective of the casino is to keep people IN, not wandering around outside.
So they'd demolish the Minksoff just to rebuild a theater specifically for The Lion King? Or just build around the existing theater?
The proposal language says a "refurbished theater," which suggests leaving the theater as it is and just renovating it.
