Oh, those are what those songs are supposed to sound like!
As much as I disliked the show, I actually want to see him. He already sounds like a vast improvement over his part-time predecessor.
Wow! He sounds great! His interpretation already seems like it will be a lot different from Chad's, so I can't wait to see him in it. The score really does sound different! During Memphis Lives in Me there were a few similar-to-"One Song Glory" moment's- it's hard to disassociate that voice.
Damn! He sounds great! I'm glad he hit the money note at the end of "Memphis Lives in Me" instead of doing that riff Chad does.
Wow that is miles above Chad.

That was awesome!
I prefer Kimball. I think Pascal will be great though!
They should have waited to film it. :-P
HOCKADOO is right, (I don't even know what that means) that guy (and that voice) are still dreamy,
what is he like 41?

I wonder if he'll be able to continuously hit those notes though. Clearly, it’s a bit of a problem for Chad.

I was expecting that to be awful, but damn. Makes me want to see it with him. He still looks too old though.
I saw Memphis with the original cast once and thought that was more than enough. But after this, it almost makes me want to go back and see Adam and Montego!
For a guy in his early forties who's been singing rock scores for nearly twenty years, his voice sounds amazingly fresh. I still don't think anything would get me back to the Shubert though.

It really is great to hear a bit of the score (though I'm not a huge fan of it) sung well. I think Chad was in good voice at the beginning of the run, but it's a high score and it probably messed with his voice, a la Laura Bell Bundy in Legally Blonde. Let's hope Adam can make it through his run without damaging his voice.
He sounds great, but I worry for his voice. He 'hit' the last note, but clearly lost it. This is the start of his run. Eek. I pray for his chords.
To all the people knocking Chad's voice-he sounded amazing at the beginning of the run. Adam is fresh-give him time for the score to shred his voice too.
Pascal has years of experience singing high, vocally demanding rock scores (RENT, AIDA, and his own original music). With the exception of LENNON--through which he struggled greatly and missed many performances--Kimball does not. His sound is more traditional Broadway. He DID sound awesome at the beginning, but that didn't last long. This gives me hope that Adam will be able to handle the demands of the score over a sustained run.
I never cared for Chad in the role - never bought his singing or Huey's relationship with Felicia - but I was still worried about Adam in the role. I was very VERY pleasantly surprised. He has some support issues, but his vibrato is much fuller than Chad's ever was.
That said, I still can't stand his voice in RENT.
Wow, surprisingly good! MUCH better than Chad's last few months
I knew he'd sound great, but even I did a little double-take at HOW great he sounded when I watched this. Flying home in a few weeks and will be there at least once during my visit. I hope he can sustain sounding this wonderful. I'm optimistic that he will.
I saw Memphis early on with Chad Kimball and was blown away by his performance
I also enjoyed Adam Pascal's take on the song in the clip.
Is it possible they are both good? Does this always have to be a contest?
Two actor singers who got their shows without nepotism, tv shows, reality shows, and on merit alone. How rare is that?
Kudos to both Chad Kimball and Adam Pascall.
Check out this interview with Adam. Lots of talk about Memphis, and some news about a recording Adam has made of Memphis Lives In Me. He says he may go for that note 5 times a week.

I might be one of the only ones who is not a fan. At least of this particular performance; I'll give him time to get into the role.
I saw Memphis for the first time in June...and fell in love. There is just something so magical to me about Chad Kimball's performance as Huey...he is so believable and so heartbreaking. In my 5 times seeing it since I have seen one of Chad's understudies and the show had a completely different dynamic. He just didn't do it for me. I feel like Adam might be the same way....i see Adam "playing Huey" and Chad's understudy "playing Huey" but when I see Chad...he just IS Huey. I've never experienced an actor make such a transformation into their character the way I do with Chad. I dunno....agree or disagree, but I for one will miss Chad tremendously. Thank god for the DVD.
If Mr. Pascal also chooses to lose Kimball's "accent" -- which was like a weird combination of Alcoholic George W. Bush, Forrest Gump with a meth addiction, and Corky from Life Goes On -- I might have to revisit Memphis.
