FYI: Ryan McCartan is no longer listed on the cast list. He posted a pretty cryptic message to his instagram story today.

He’s the next Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby. Taking over for Jeremy.
That’s what I’ve heard as well!
I’m curious if Jac Yarrow can now transfer to broadway with Old Friends

"I really admire Janie if that’s her stance. Good for her, what an example she sets."
Like another poster said, the plane is going to leave without her so her stance will really not accomplish one thing. People are not going to stop flying because of her belief. It's her life and her decision, to each their own.

Yes, and if/when enough people take this type of stance, fewer seats will be sold. As a result, airlines may switch to smaller planes, reduce flight frequency, et al, just as they do when people quit buying tickets because they think they are too expensive.
If people only take socially conscious actions when they believe it will lead to mass change, little to nothing would ever happen. I don't pick up trash on a sidewalk because I believe everyone will eventually do it. I pick it up because I can.

Yes it is!
Obligatory ask to theatre gods - can we get a new studio cast recording of this? Bernadette’s ‘Send in the clowns’ shockingly remains unrecorded despite imo being definitive. Lea has some BEAUTIFUL vocals throughout and brings a new sound to Sondheim.
The ‘real’ old friends concert was far less musically satisfying than what they ended up staging for the London run.

Have they announced who is replacing Ryan McCartney yet? I believe rehearsals have started already for the LA run.
Kyle Selig and Jacob Dickey will round out the Broadway company.

Yawn. Knowing some of the people who auditioned for these tracks, I’m kinda like “Really? THAT’S who they picked?”

Directors and producers rarely get their first (or even second) choices --- sometimes it's 3rd 4th, 5th, etc etc. It all depends on who they can make a deal with --- and MTC contracts don't pay a lot!

I’m aware. That’s how we ended up with the Aaron/Sutton Sweeney fiasco.

Did it occur to you that perhaps they gave excellent auditions?

i know this is off topic. But any idea who were the original 1,2,3,4 picks for the Sweeney revival before Aaron tveit and Sutton foster came to be?
Theres only speculation on that. Anyone telling you anything is talking out of their ass.
Dame, please tell us you're back in your home safe and sound.
I would love to know who they might have been courting for the Sweeney Todd replacements, for example, I'd love to know if they asked Bernadette. That said, I do find it odd that people would dismiss the Aaron/Sutton Foster pairing as bottom of the barrel. Two Tony winners who brought in the $$$ and Sutton Foster is a much bigger star than Ashford who doesn't normally replace (but like Bernadette in NIGHT MUSIC I guess if the Sondheim opportunity is there, you take it because it won't come around again).
Is there any chance that OLD FRIENDS could extend? Assuming no inventory being held back it looks like this will do better in New York than in London. And it doesn't look like they have something booked afterwards? I have a funny feeling they will extend so I'm holding off buying tickets right now as I think I MIGHT want to go to the very last performance.
Bernadette really is iconic, and they found the perfect complement co-star in Lea! (from Broadway rehearsals)

To be fair, I wouldn't really call that a "fiasco"... Don't get me wrong, I wasn't THRILLED about them joining that revival when the announcement dropped myself, but I do think they both gave respectable enough performances when I did go. Plus, it gave the show a few extra months on Broadway and the sales weren't terrible.

Most Manhattan Theatre Club productions have extensions built in, pending cast availability of course (in Eureka Day's case, they extended even though one of the leads had to depart). They typically will not announce it until after it officially opens.
It looks like Lea Salonga is doing Into the Woods from 'August 2025' so guessing if there is an extension it will only be for a few weeks, maybe through the Tony Awards or something but then Lea will need to go for rehearsals (unless they plan to replace Lea, which I can't see them doing personally).
