After Tracy Ullman kills in the role, let’s hire Dick Van Dyke as her replacement.

Dick Van Dyke is 99 years old.
A factoid presented without an opinion on the matter.

yet I'd run to see this show if DVD was Mary's Husband for even only a week while sitting down the entire time.
Same.

Trolls always insist on the last word, so have it.
Appreciate it, toots.
aaaaaaaaand scene.
I love Dick Van Dyke not only for his history of storied performances, but for his absolute commitment to being a beloved eccentric weirdo in his old age. He doesn't feel sanitized or media-scrubbed, just a happy old dork who finally has the freedom and the wherewithal to do whatever the hell he wants at all times. He's like the king of the Halloween-all-year people.

As a big fan of this show, I would love to actually hear how Betty Gilpin was in Oh, Mary, if anyone was there or has seen social media reactions they can link.

Have you seen the show? It's a reference to a dialogue in the play.

Oh man. Saw this for the third time, now with Gilpin. I have to say, it just didn't click as it did with Cole. It didn't work for me, and the show was just not as funny. (Start short spoiler) The cabaret at the end just didn't work at all and didn't get nearly as many laughs as Cole's version did. (End spoiler) Maybe I shouldn't have compared her performance to Cole's as much, but they were so dominant in the role that it's hard to unsee their characterization, even with Gilpin on stage. Surprisingly, the new supporting cast is also nowhere near as good as the originals, but maybe it's just too early in their run. Overall, I was pretty disappointed and probably won't return before Cole is back. I wouldn't recommend seeing this with Gilpin if you've seen the show previously with Cole.

Thank you for the detailed report! Was curious to hear more about Betty's performance. Only thing, Cole uses they/them pronouns.
How has their rush been this week w/Gilpin?
Ack I’m going Wednesday night. I feared this would of happened

I see a couple "they"s in the post? What part is wrong?

Obviously they must've edited the post. Thanks for fixing.
I had my doubts about Betty but she was excellent tonight. First time seeing the show and it was a hoot from start to finish. Only problem was a weird alarm was going off for twenty minutes.
go see this show and smile
Chris Renfro posted this tonight regarding the alarm

She really was phenomenal.
That said, SOMEONE should’ve stopped the play 5 minutes in when that alarm wasn’t turning off. 20 minutes is generous. I swear, it felt like it was going off for the entire first half of the play! Insane.
“ I said in the “All In” thread that after seeing Aidy Bryant in that, I’d truly kill to see her as Mary.”
When I saw the show’s first preview off broadway, one of my first thoughts were “Aidy Bryant or Cecily Strong would kill it.”
