I tried this last year and it somehow worked (if it doesn't fly, whatever...)
It seems that when it comes to the Tonys we all think we can start a new thread and bitch about everything we disagree with!
Instead of starting a trillion "bitching" threads, try using this one to share with others and express your surprise, discomfort or passionate feelings regarding the nominations.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Then YOU have no need for this thread, but others will. So instead of bitching about the Tony noms; you bitch about the posters....really, what's the difference? Oh, right...yours is catty.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I thought 9 to 5 would atleast get alot of nods... but 4? Crap. Well, lucky they got any. How did Rock of Ages and Shrek get nods over 9 to 5 for Best Musical?! Auuuugggghhhh!!
lol. I am just tired.

Ohh I definitely need this thread. This is what I wrote on the other thread but is more appropriate here:
I'm quite surprised by the 9 TO 5 shut out in the Best Musical category as well, especially since they nominated Parton for the Score. They seemed to really like SHREK over 9 TO 5, especially since they nominated Foster over the other 9 TO 5 leads. I feel bad for Megan Hilty and Stephanie J. Block, must be quite an awkward moment for Janney too. I was very disappointed by their need to kiss BILLY ELLIOT's ass, I'm a big supporter of the show but David Bologna? Carole Shelley? Those nods could have gone to different performers. But they were all about letting us know they REALLY liked a show, they nominated the whole cast of GOD OF CARNAGE and in the process left out some very buzzed-about performances like Carla Gugino's, Kristin Scott Thomas', and Tovah Feldush. They also left out Bill Irwin and Daniel Radcliffe from the Best Actor race. And that nod to ROCK OF AGES for Best Direction came out of left field, good for them

What a bland group of choices. I haven't seen Shrek and know I shouldn't have an opinion about it without doing so but honestly- does this show need to be showered with TONY nominations? It really rubs me the wrong way that something with SUCH accessible source material is considered an "ORIGINAL" musical...
The only category that seems to be "anybody's game" is Featured Actress in a Musical (not that I'm happy about the snub of the [tos] ladies). The rest of the winners jump out at you quite easily.
All "he drank the kool-aid" comments aside, I think [title of show] was easily better and worthy enough to be part of many of the categories it was snubbed in. Although featured will be a fierce competition, I think Susan at least deserved a nod considering she had a writing credit in the show as well as a stellar performance.

My complaints: first and foremost, Tovah Feldshuh for Lead Actress in a Play. Also, Blithe Spirit for Best Revival of a Play. Equus was almost completely forgotten by the nominating committee. Too many more to list...

Shrek over 9 to 5? Sutton over Megan and Stephanie? Are you kidding me? I've seen both shows, no comparison... I guess the farting was a bigger hit than I thought
2012: American Idiot 01/14, In The Heights 02/11, Warhorse 02/18, The Book of Mormon 02/23, The Gershwins Porgy and Bess 02/24, Anything Goes 02/25, Godspell 02/26, Shrek 03/31, Ghost (West End)04/11, Singing In The Rain (West End) 04/12, Matilda (West End) 04/13, Leap of Faith 05/02, Evita 05/03, Jesus Christ Superstar 05/04, Newsies 05/05, The Book Of Mormon 05/06, West Side Story 06/02, Beauty and the Beast 07/07, Million Dollar Quartet 07/28, La Cage 10/13, 10/27 Sister Act, 31/10 Once, 11/01 Rock of Ages, 11/02 Spiderman, 11/03 Newsies, 11/15 Jekyll & Hyde
meh, I was happy for hair. Also, Billy elliot is great, but this was a bit much. Constantine for best actor? I wish [tos] got more nominations, one of the ladies deserved a nomination over carole shelly for sure
Madbrain - HOW did Tovah get overlooked?! That's ridiculous.
Also, Rock of Ages and Shrek over 9 to 5 and [title of show]? Gross.
Very disappointed with the noms. Except for all of Next to Normal's. So happy for them.
And a small one - but how was William Ivey Long overlooked?

I agree, Susan Blackwell should have been nominated over Shelley, like I said on another thread, I'd have even nominated Mary Testa over Shelley. I really really don't get that nomination, it's so absurd and it just seems like the committee is just trying to be "cool" and make BILLY ELLIOT this year's THE PRODUCERS. I imagine the ceremony will be just as annoying as these nods.

The only reason I can think of William Ivey Long being overlooked is because of how long and illustrious his career has been. Mayhaps they wanted to shine some light on other, newer designers rather than make it "The William Ivey Long Category". Had he garnered a nom he, probably, would have won by name alone.
I really feel for Daniel Radcliffe. He broke out of the Harry Potter mold and showed us all that a real talent lurked behind those glasses. He bent over backwards for this town (as shown in his BC/EFA work during his run) and took Broadway into his heart. His snub is a travesty.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
It's ridiculous that THE SEAGULL, one of the most raved-about plays in the season, was completely shut out especially when most people predicted nods in the Featured Actor/Actress categories and even for Lead Actress.

I'm more than a little disappointed with this year's nominations. I was expecting Blithe Spirit to get a revival nod, and Jayne Atkinson to get a much deserved best actress nomination. And I know that Equus was early in the season, but I think Dan Radcliffe should have gotten a nomination as well. Yes, it's super competitive in plays this year, but Waiting For Godot? Really?
On the bright side, I am excited about the attention for Mary Stuart!
I cringe thinking that we'll probably hear "Billy Elliot" "Billy Elliot" "Billy Elliot" "Billy Elliot" "Billy Elliot" all night on June 7th. It's just a politically correct piece of crap show.
And no Revival for Equus or noms for Radcliffe or Griffiths? I'm honestly shocked.
