Pretty Woman should start thinking about closing now - I doubt it will make it to 2020.

Be More Chill and The Prom both had excellent weeks (with the announcements about the latter really raising publicity) - I wonder why the Prom made those announcements a week after closing. They won’t save the show, but they will allows it to end its run on a high...

Very impressive start for MOULIN ROUGE. Obviously it's too early to tell, but if it can sustain those numbers, it'll be a big fat hit.

Moulin Rouge! average ticket price was ~$240... holy smokes. It had higher grosses than 1/4 of the shows running right now -- with only two performances.

I suspect that World Pride helped boost some of the underperforming shows. One of my friends tried to go through TKTS to get tickets to see The Prom Saturday night and according to her, all they had was obstructed view so her friend used is phone to get tickets for tonight. Not sure how accurate any of that is as I wasn’t there and she isn’t familiar with buying tickets to Broadway shows.

that's amazing for previews! There must have been a few comps, right? Which means the real average (not counting comps) is above $237.

If $497,570 for Be More Chill is excellent. What am I missing?

I was referring to large attendance rise, but potential grosses were still pretty low - attendance was artificially bumped up by price reductions...

You would think that pride would have given big boosts to Cher and Tootsie and Prom. Guess there were too many other things going on. This week won't be great for many shows. Frankie-yikes

Be More Chill's capacity went up by about 10% from last week, but its gross didn't increase that much  ($38k). It's the best week it's had since the end of April, but it's clear that closing was the prudent decision.

I think Tootsie and Beetlejuice will only last thru January.

It’s hard to tell right now, but their potential grosses have been underwhelming and the good publicity from the Tony Awards is wearing off. Both productions lend themselves to stunt casting, but I doubt Tootsie will get anyone more famous than Santino Fontana, and for all his talent, casting him may not have been the best idea - the Frozen/Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fans who follow Fontana aren’t the sort of people who would typically be interested in an adaptation of a 37 year old comedy with a very problematic premise and a lead tainted by #MeToo...

but yeah, it’s likely that Hadestown and TKAM will be the only 2018-19 productions still around this time next year...

Wow, If Moulin Rouge can keep those numbers up they are looking at starting their run at almost $2.5M per week in the grosses. Impressive it is happening this early on, even for such a well known brand.

This is whiny and selfish of me, but I’m bummed that moulin Rouge is selling out at such extremely high prices already. I’ll be trying the lotto, but it just seems like $99 for the back of the Hirschfeld is exorbitant. I wish there had been a less expensive preview option, but obviously the demand is extraordinary. I didn’t realize how much love there was for the movie!

Also, Frankie and Johnny’s numbers are hard to watch. I didn’t love the show, but I have such admiration for all involved that I wish they were having a somewhat better go of it.

I'm going out on a limb, but I think Tootsie might be gone sooner than above predicted.
The Tony's don't seem to have helped much, and the show is playing in that death house.

When a show is making over $1 million a week every week since opening, but is still getting described as a flop that could close within a few months, it’s a sign something has gone seriously wrong. I think that the Marquis theatre is definitely to blame. It’s one of the ten biggest theatres on Broadway, but whilst the other 1600+ theatres are hosting major family friendly productions or tourist bait, the Marquis is too reliant on 70s/80s nostalgia with little appeal to families or tourists.

I think that a January/April closing is most likely for Tootsie (the former if grosses drop sharply, the latter is they continue at their good-but-not-good-enough current rate). However, it is worth noting that Something Rotten (another old-fashioned farce about the theatre world) held on at the larger St. James for 20 months despite pretty poor grosses. Could the same thing happen here, or are Tootsie’s “brand name” and Tony Awards wins making its underperformance seem far worse?

how has beautiful, pretty woman, waitress, not all announced closing yet? Those numbers in the middle of the summer are dreadful. i cannot imagine what they will be after labor day. 350k each? Their operating costs all must be over 600k or more.
Beetlejuice also cannot get above $95.00 avg tix price. thats a big problem.

Being someone who just bought tickets to Beetlejuice and paid premium prices, it was hard to convince myself to do that for a Beetlejuice Musical. How fun it may be or not, shelving out prices like that just doesn't work for most consumers. Im lucky enough with a new job that I'm able to afford it, but the average consumer just cannot with all the compeition around them. Oh well, hopefully it lasts till November.

Love for the movie may not be the sole motivating factor. I've never even see the movie, but I bought tickets for Moulin Rouge for the same reason I bought tickets for King Kong: I'm just a sucker for high production values.
