Suffs can and I believe will be able to make it to January. A friend suggested to me the other day how beautiful it could be (hopefully if Harris wins in November) if they close on Sunday January 19, the day before inauguration.
It's only a matter of time for The Notebook. And the odds of a January closing for Back to the Future continue to rise.
Down week for many shows but I expect Labor Day weekend to be extremely lucrative before Fall kicks into gear with schools, etc. Suffs can do so many things and have with their promotional campaigns, it's incredibly exciting given how the political landscape has changed over the Summer.
Regarding The Notebook, do people think they are trying to get through the holidays? Can they? Yikes.
Could the notebook be waiting to see if Ingrid Michaelson’s new album reengages her fan base?

I'm guessing the producers of The Notebook have some data that may suggest that their target audience is more likely to attend in the fall, since they have been struggling all summer. It would sort of make sense I suppose (the title has a connotation of being a "weepie" and summer family tourists want grand spectacle, not heavy emotions). But at this point I just don't know how they can right this ship. Does anyone know their weekly nut? It's not a huge show, but I would still assume it has to be at least $650K. Depends on their break even, but I imagine they've lost money for every week of July and August. It's a shame, I genuinely enjoyed the show and was baffled by reviews.
Meanwhile, Water for Elephants looks to be done in by it's high operating costs. They are consistently dipping below them each week now. Ditto Back to the Future. One of both may do an early announcement of a January closing in an attempt to drum up sales from folks sitting on the fence and try to end with a bang right after the holidays.
Oh, Mary! makes me so unbelievably happy. I hope they can keep the momentum going and extend through the Tonys. Fingers crossed.
I can’t imagine the loss of Grant Gustin, though not a super huge name, will do anything but hurt W4E.
As mentioned many a time before, although Six is in a much better position, both them and & Juliet still have untapped potential when it comes to casting - so it remains to be seen what is down the pike.

No clue about Six but a lot of great stunt casting could happen with &Juliet to bring in the audiences. You're right
Book of Mormon is doing fine. While its grosses are generally trending downwards, they're not plummeting and it doesn't look like they dip into the red for any prolonged period of time. It still has at least a few years left.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I could see Book of Mormon moving off-broadway a la Avenue Q.
It makes me wonder if the South Park boys would ever develop a new musical or just stick with the one. Mel Brooks tried recreating the success of The Producers with Young Frankenstein which inevitably failed. It’s also interesting to see the two shows broadway runs didn’t overlap.

Suffs really is doing pretty well for itself. So many shows are trickling down as fall approaches and it is not. It'll definitely hang on till January.
I think the worst performance of the week is Back to the Future. Yikes. It's still summer and doing numbers like that.
Gatsby is showing a little signs of softening. I could see it being a show that starts to trend down quickly at some point but that's just speculation. Admittedly it's done better than I thought it would every step of the way so I could be wrong again.

Really? I can’t imagine this show being able to effectively scale down, even for NWS (the likeliest candidate), nor do I think the demand would be there. I think it’s too big of a show. SIX, on the other hand, could probably have its pick of any off-Broadway venue once Broadway futures soften enough.

For lots of the country, school is already back in session - family vacation always drops off before Labor Day.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It was originally intended to debut at NYTW, so it’s not crazy. The production itself isn’t wildly technical- it’s mostly one unit set that gets modified a bit. And Jersey Boys was also able to scale down and make the leap, as was Kinky Boots, both I would say are similar in scale.

I understand that but it's still the summer season and there are several states including NY still on summer vacation. For it to be already below $900k at a time that shows are inching down but not crashing is a big uh oh for that show.
It's interesting that there hasn't been a rush of end of summer closings this year like some years. The only unplanned closing in July or Aug was The Who's Tommy, right? A lot of shows are still making a go of it.

One reason why there aren't as many closings right now:
Sometimes this is the time of year when a show that opened the previous fall closes just shy of one year (The Prom, The Cher Show, SpongeBob, King Kong, Great Comet, On The Town, etc), but everything that opened in summer-fall of 2023 is already closed except BTTF.
We also lost some spring flops before summer even began (Heart of R&R, Lempicka). I remain skeptical that Notebook can make it to January, but we'll see.

Hold on till January,Suffs!
Again,Hamiltonwith a less-than-ideal % capacity though the numbers are still swell…
Over a quarter of the season down and Broadway is now at a $1.68 billion pace for total gross.
"
Hamilton has been below 100% previously for a month or two. Mattress is selling well, but at discounted prices. Unless those prices paid increase, it is not going to return a dime of its investment.

I'm still salty about losing Tommy earlier than Labor Day, don't remind me.
Heading into the summer I honestly thought BTTF would do similar business to Aladdin and then continue to skate by in the fall until the holidays and potential January closing. There's going to be some ugly houses this cast plays to in the coming weeks. An $89 avg ticket price in August, yikes.

I'm curious - do we know what the operating costs are for W4E? I've always assumed quite high, but don't remember reading any actual number.
