re: Broadway names pronunciation#75
Posted: 9/26/05 at 4:16pmI always that it was Judy "Kyoon," but Jai Rodriguez introduced her last night as Judy "Coon." Was he just confused/nervous, or am I mistaken?

SAY-cahn Seng-BLOW. I'm pretty sure.
PS, the Playbill article's pronounciation of Pascal is wrong. I promise. Let's go with what he says.

Posted: 10/1/05 at 1:13amI always thought it was Judy KOON also. I remember watching something on the Disney channel when Pocahontas came out and they pronounced it KOON. For the person who asked about Bianca Marroquin, I'm pretty sure it Mah-rro-keen, atleast that's how it was pronounced when I heard a clip from the Mexican cast of Rent.

"He pronounces it "pasCAL" in the TOday show video on the blog, so I'm gonna go with him.>
Yes, but don't forget that he also pronounces Idina's name wrong on purpose, he might just be trying to confuse us.

It's his ploy.
I think his pronounciation of Idina's name is just a strong Long Island accent.
Then again, does ANYONE really know that they pronounce her name "correctly?"
... it's pasCAL.

Posted: 10/1/05 at 3:27amRe Miss Sara Ramirez insisting that her name be pronounced in English as if we were speaking Spanish: I'd like to see an American named Sara insisting that Spanish speakers pronounce her name in Spanish as "Se-ra" with an American "r."
re: Broadway names pronunciation#83
Posted: 10/1/05 at 9:03amI was being somewhat sarcastic about Idina's name.

Posted: 10/1/05 at 4:38pmWhat about Len Cariou? I imagine Len is pretty straight-forward, but Cariou? Care-eye-oo? Car-ee-oo? Care-you? Car-you? AHHHH!!!!

"I had such an issue when I learned about Pascal's triangle. I kept smiling and spacing out. "
Emcee, I had the same troubles in math as you. My teacher made me explain my fascination. They thought I was nuts...this was after I had explained a month before why whenever the teacher's watch alarm went off I'd call out "Azt break."

Ok, here's a stupid one:
Is it Tonya Dixon (fantine les mis tour, rafiki lion king)
like toe-nya, or tah-nya?
Same with Tonya Pinkins
Or is there a general rule for tonya/tanya?

Alright dumb one, cause I love him to death and I feel like this should be obvious, but alas, I change my pronunciation of this all the time:

I'm pretty sure both pronounce Tonya like TAN-ya, but I'm not positive.... I always thought it was TONE-ya too up until recently.

I feel the need to give credit and mention to BSo on this specific thread, as he has drastically helped me to correctly pronounce names like LaChusia, Thenardier, Enjolras, Esparza(don't ask for some odd reason I thought it was spelled and rightly pronounced Esperaza) and a whole slew of others. Knew he'd be posting here w/ his knowledge on the topic.
And umm yeah...kinda drive him and others crazy b/c I know it's wrong but I really can't help but say eye-Dina. Think I actually said that to her when I approached her at the Rent set, but umm she didn't seem mad...granted I was very shy so she might have just heard a mumble...
