Just left “Six” and the Ushers we’re directing people to the stage door. I asked if the cast was still coming out to sign and they said they were, which just really surprised me. I didn’t wait for them but...wow.
I work with nurses who say this strain is new but corona has been around for a long time. Apparently this one bypasses the upper respiratory system and goes to the lungs which is why anyone with preexisting breathing issues are the most serious cases. If you’re young and healthy it will probably not have a serious affect on you but it’s important that we listen to health professionals and stay home when possible. Good health to all!!
The NBA just announced it is suspended its season. Nearly all sporting events are getting canceled or played without spectators. Broadway is right behind this. I'd expect no further shows get performed after Sunday and Broadway is shutdown for the time being.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Do we think that touring productions would be shut down as well? Tours seem even riskier, what with people travelling between different cities at such a quick rate. I'm seeing THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG's tour tomorrow (which I'm sure is still going on, that would be an awfully last minute cancellation) and LES MISÉRABLES's tour on the 28th - that one I'm less optimistic about. Wondering if I should refund my HADESTOWN Broadway ticket for the 26th as well, or SIX's ticket for Friday (although it probably wouldn't cancel within two day's notice, I'm incredibly worried about the usher who tested positive, as they worked at the Brooks Atkinson). I'm still willing to see shows under the pandemic honestly, I'm just wondering if I should cancel ahead of the game or just wait for the official announcements.
They may make that decision on a city by city basis given how many cases have been diagnosed in that area. I think we’re headed for a total shut down in entertainment period based on how rapidly it’s spreading.
THIS IS A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS!!! It is absolutely inhumane to the audience, cast, crew and staff to keep any production open at this point. Many productions will not survive and many people may be out of work but there is no reason to keep endangering the lives of THOUSANDS every night.

Corona has been around for awhile. SARS and MERS are all corona strain viruses

Ya and those were nowhere near the magnitude of COVID-19...
This seems obvious -- there's no point of having B'way shows if actors are falling sick and being carted off to the hospital. Yes they need to survive but they also need to live in order to make a living.
What I don’t get it is we all take the subway, LIRR, buses, go eat at restaurants, go to the gym. We are constantly interacting with people. Why does Broadway make any difference? Wash your hands. Be clean. Be respectful. Sanitize. It shouldn’t take an outbreak to convince people to wash their hands.

It is serious but is the cure worse than the disease ? We will.be staring at four walls 24/7 Every time someone gets it it warrants a special.news flash. Like it or not Trump saved lives by immediately banning travel.to and from China. We are throwing the baby out with the bath water
NYC is in deep crap and it is getting worse by the day. Broadway will.be never be the same after the dust settles. Get used to it. The coming days will bring premature closings. My wife and I went cold turkey and life goes on without it."

De Blasio already advised not taking public transit unless necessary. When you're in close proximities to people for a prolonged period of time it only amplifies your chances catching something should someone around you be ill.

Can't see a show in a Broadway theater but can be jammed packed on a subway train with people who are even closer to you - wow.

Because those first three are necessities not a hobby. The latter are not groups of literally hundreds of people locked in one spot for hours at a time. Should NYC close the Subway & Mass Transit, then you know **** is real bad because the city DOES NOT WORK without it.
No I agree, but I mean you can be on the transit for a VERY long period of time in a VERY crowded car. You can be at a very small packed bar. At a packed club. Seeing Drag Race on a Friday night. There’s not really anyway to “contain” it. So just be safe and cautious.
OK, so no Broadway actor has fallen ill and been hospitalized yet. I think people can extrapolate that what we've seen elsewhere can just as easily happen here, heh. I don't think using a Broadway actor as an example makes it more real, just makes me think I missed something in this ever-growing thread.

The goal is to flatten the curve of exposure so that healthcare institutions are not taxed beyond capacity. Every reduction in nonessential interaction can help.
