Personally, I tend to get angry when I see the stupidity of these extremist christians, rather than laugh. I need to work on that. I mean UGH though how can people be like that? I know if you're a Christian you're *supposed* to follow the bible...but I mean come ON, must they take the bible so literally? Isn't the bible powerful because of the message, rather than the damn words? ....Isn't RENT more powerful because of the message, rather than what we see on film or even on stage? Why can't THEY see that, if there so full of freakin Christ's love.

::insert angry face here that i don't know the code for::

I don't think you guys are getting the actual point, as stated on the page, of the site itself. It's not to rant, to hate, or to scathe the makers of the film, but to alert parents to every possibly offensive thing so they can make an informed decision on whether the material is suitable for thier child. Sure, a few of the guys own slightly vehement opinions got in there, but that's not the point of the site. There's a perfectly valid reason for the nitpicking on the part of these people.

Think about it before you go off and attack the guy.

EDIT: Okay, after reading a few more reviews, I don't like the site and I feel screenit.com does a better job of what these people/this guy is/are trying to do.

Well, I'm not really just talking about the guy who reviewed it...i didn't even read the article, but what people were copying and pasting from it. I'm talking about people I know, or know of, who are so full of bigotry and have so many judgements about people....it's like SHUT UP!

two nice little lines from rent which these people should notice and understand:
"it's between God and me" &
"let he among us without sin be the first to condemn" -- oh how true that is.

I totally forgot about the CAP review! I read through his old reviews when I need a good laugh. Honsetly, they are ridiculous. Read them!

One of my favorites was when he criticized the movie Gladiator, because the ANCIENT ROMAN characters were praying to the "false" ANCIENT ROMAN GODS!! Umm... duh.

And the quotes around love really made me laugh. The "review" looked exactly like I thought it would.

OH OH OH! The best of all is his review for SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER, AND UNCUT! Marc Shaiman, if you're on you should check it out! Extremist Christian Analysis of American Culture on RENT

Some sick part of me finds myself going back to look at the South Park analysis just for kicks. Dogma, too. They absolutely loved that one.

Thanks for the laugh everybody! Time to go set my garbage on fire and dump some firey trash out the window *irresponsibly.* Hey if Adam and Anthony did it, I should do it. Looks like fun!

Oh what a great laugh to wake up to this morning. Still can't stop thinking of the "irresponsibility with fire." Now everytime I see the movie I am going to laugh when Mark and Roger dump the trashcan.

In Jersey Girl they refer to "stage murder by cutting man's throat, twice, once in a child's play." And I'm like, "aw, c'mon, leave Sweeney Todd alone."

I think it's interesting with all the mentions of "sexual immorality" they never once list the fact that Benny, the heterosexual male is having an extra-marital affair with Mimi. Yet they call out Maureen's flirting with the bartender/waitress at the party as "cheating".

My favourite is for the movie "The skeleton key"

Under sexual immorallity, they have:
"Woman bathing herself"
"Man in tub, repeatedly"

I never knew that that personal hygiene was such a sinful act.

I love how Maureen can cheat on Joanne when they only had a pretend wedding. Either they're a couple or they're not, people!

Did anyone else chuckle to themselves slyly at the lengthy list of instances of "sexual immorality?" I saw that and thought to myself, "Tee hee. Yay Rent!"

they even found some sin in "Chicken Little"

"The song "We Are the Champions [of the world]", sung and written by the musical genius and unsurpassed vocal talents of Freddie Mercury of "Queen", is sung boldly by Chicken Little. But there is something deeper that I feel must be revealed to parents and grandparents. Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991, was an avowed homosexual practitioner. The song phrase "we are the champions of the world" and the rest of the quite powerful and eloquent lyrical story reads like an ode to and encouragement of fellow homosexual practitioners as well as glorification of the practice of homosexualty. [1 Cor. 6:9-10] There is no proof of this, of course, so read the lyrics for yourself and make up your own mind."

they also sited "underwear, repeatedly" as sexual immorality.

under the impudence/hate category they site "flatulence".

i'm speechless.

They call him a musical genius, then say that because he was a "homosexual practitioner" his song is promoting the gay agenda. How can they complement him personally, then claim that because he's gay, his songs obviously have these evil hidden intentions of "glorification of homosexual practice"?

Thanks to whoever suggested South Park, that one was scream. The best was the example of "Let's (homosexual intercourse)." Not only does that not make sense, but why couldn't they just include that line under the "most foul of the foul words" category?

And since when was "revelry" an "Offense to God?" I thought God was happy when I revelled. That gave me a bit of a frowny face. Which, according to these people, must make God very happy.

24 hours later, and I'm still laughing at being "irresponsible with fire" - I will NEVER be able to watch that scene again without a giggle.

That and the fact that two people LINKING ARMS of the same gender is offensive.

Ah. Ma. Zing.

And I nearly peed myself reading the "Chicken Little" one - that is brilliant.

Haha, I know what you mean. I was browsing that site for my favorite movies earlier. I deliberately checked Dogma, haha it got a 2! Scary Movie (the original) got a 0! I just love to see what they pick out of these movies! I was crossing my fingers for a Wizard of Oz review, just out of sheer curiosity as to what it would say. But, alas, no luck.

I checked out the Butterfly Effect, too. Under "Impudence/Hate" is says: "punk/goth, repeatedly" I'm not even quite sure exactly what they were referring to there!

I punched in Star Wars Episode III and came up with a gem...

Under Sexual Immorality:
"below navel skin, threatening to expose what follows"

Pfffff... Too bad they didn't use that line for Mimi. T'would have been a great laugh.

This is the whole of the summary analysis of The Birdcage...
(remember this is the ENTIRE text on the film)

"I could not justify spending the time and effort necessary to do a complete analysis of The Birdcage. After 25 minutes of the show I had one and a half recording logs of homosexual suggestions and activities. There were other examples of unacceptable material, but none so thick as homosexuality. I apologize if you were expecting to see a complete review of The Birdcage, but there are some things I can stand, and some things I cannot stand -- this movie was "cannot." It was glorification of homosexualtiy, pure and simple. Great scott!! Robin Williams, the voice of Genie in Aladdin who said "I love you too, Al" and acting with children in Jumanji was right there on the screen kissing on other men! I am aware of Williams' use of foul language and sexual material in some movies, but whodda thought? It may be illegal in Canada and other countries to speak out against homosexuality, but not in America. Not yet, at least. No...I am not a homophobe. I do not fear or hate the homosexual, I just hate homosexuality.

My suggestion is...don't watch this movie."

I list this review under "impudence/hate" as 1)intolerance
2)hate, often and 3)assuming the role of judge (as far as I know, the only one who can judge is GOD)

Opinions are crazy crazy things.

Point of view if really important, and I think there are two sides to this. Yes, what they say seems silly, but it's all becuase of your opinions.

And you can't (well, you can) really call someone wrong, or stupid, becuase of a belief they hold. It's a belief, it's to be debated, or disputed.

Yes, I am a Christian, and no I do not love Rent, but not because of the homosexual references, (I LOVE All of Finn's stuff, and I can't wait to see Brokeback Mountain, lol). But, to reiterate, the man's job was not to watch the movie as a piece of art, his job was to be precise about what contradicts the Bible, and how many times that occured, so that people who want to "protect", haha, their children, or themselves from such things will know what happens in the movie.

Agree, or disagree, that's what his job was, and he did it very well. And agree, or disagree, there are people out there that do take the Bible literally, and are very firm in their beliefs.

So, yes we can say, "my what difference of opinions they have" and share a chuckle, or a guffaw, or a ROFLMAO, but if we could please refrain from name-calling?

And yes, in my "opinion", "Adults in underwear" is... confusing, and HILARIOUS, to say the least.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

I'm a Christian too, and words don't express my feelings about these reviews.

I have been perusing the sight, and discovered the following:

He only watched the first 22 minutes of cruel intentions and he was irate enough about that...

legally blonde is banned. my big fat greek wedding is banned (just because of the sex scene. he loves the rest of it)

miss congeniality is out, as is MATILDA.

As yet, my personal favourite review is of Love, actually. I haven't finished the harry potter yet.

It surprises me that while he takes a whole paragraph to warn parents that Freddie Mercury was a homosexual, because Chicken Little sings "We Are The Champions", he makes no mention in his Finding Nemo review that Ellen Degeneres, one of the MAIN voices in the movie is a homosexual.

Just an observation.

I just saw the trailer for Brokeback Mountain before Rent. I hadn't heard of it before. It looks good though.
I can't wait to see his review. I'm betting he's going to walk out of that one, too. But still manage to post a review anyhow.

And on that note, to me that just seems a tad but irresponsible and hypocritical. After all, he's portraying himself as his pillar of moral superiority and a crusader against homosexuality (though he swears, not the homosexuals themselves). And yet he can't sit through an hour and a half long movie so he can get the whole story and message? Couldn't he, the enlightened man that he is, withstand a simple film? That says a lot about someone's point of view and just how well it works if they can't even stomach hearing (or seeing) something to the contrary.

I'm not expecting someone like that to understand or change his mind, not in the least, but just watch the damn thing! After all, I read his whole review! Extremist Christian Analysis of American Culture on RENT Updated On: 11/29/05 at 12:13 PM

How about in Legally Blond 2:

gay dog marriage
calling animals "beings"

I understand what the guy is trying to do it, but you have to admit the way he is doing it is hilarious. I usually read Movie Mom to get an idea of what might not be good for my kid, but I tend to be more liberal than she is.
