I don’t know what everyone expected his hair to look like, but teens aren’t always the best stylists. I saw a lot of bad hair in high school, mine included. This wig seems about right to me LOL

Yeah, but that's nothing new for a high school set film. It gets to be pretty costly to work with a full cast of teens on a movie due to the various regulations in place. That's why we see so many of these movies with twenty-something actors playing teen roles. It's just cheaper and easier. I can't imagine this musical had the budget for tutors, child wranglers, and the narrow shooting window that working with minors in lead roles requires. It's not that it can't be done, it's just quite difficult. At least none of them have hit 30 yet. I had a harder problem swallowing the cast of the film version of Rent than I do this.

The issue is that he looks like when sitcoms have flashbacks of where they were younger. It's a total fail.

I actually thought he looked better than I expected! But overall, I thought the trailer was damn good.....will be interesting to see what people's reaction to it are that are NOT already familiar with it. (And as much as I hate to admit it - I cried, too!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I have no idea what some people are seeing. Platt looks like he could EASILY pass for a teenager in this trailer. Like the wig or not it seems to be doing it's job. He looks more like a teenager than he did in The Politician. He looks more like a teenager than any of the WB Buffy crew did.
It seems like just another reason to hate on Ben Platt. Did I miss something? It's like when I blinked a couple years ago and suddenly this whole board hated Lin Manuel Miranda (which lasted up until Hamilton).
Incidentally (very), does everyone know Norbert Leo Butz is killing it in a strong supporting role on the NBC Sci Fi show Debris?
Overall, it looks faithful to the source and moving. I think Platt looks older next to the other actors. What are their ages? I mean Stockard Channing looked 40 in Grease, but she was cast next to other adults so it was less jarring. Ben standing at his locker leering at an actress who looks like a kid has a Strangers With Candy vibe. Evan is awkward, not uber creepy. If he reads too creepy, the arc won't work in any way.
The Annie wig is unfortunate too. He is so cute with his parted hair. Why did they change it?
This role would have been perfect for Noah Galvin who still reads as a teen.
Also, I'd like to put a word in for the overworked mom trope. I know lots of overextended moms. They wash their hair. Did they have to make Moore look like the "before" on an anti-depressant commercial. Sheesh.

Yeah! He looks like Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed

I think he looks fine, especially since they cast other people in there 20. Trailer looks great and gives me hope that the show will be done right cinematically.

Because the ages of the actors are still relevant when discussing how teens in high school are portrayed on film. Whether melodrama, camp, comedy, or thriller, teens are rarely portrayed by teens.

And? Depending on tone, that can work and be quite successful. Other times it looks bizarre.

I was 6 when Grease was released. My dad took me. I was so excited. I asked him why Rizzo looked older. "The loose girls in high school always looked older," "Loose?," I replied. "The whores" he said. "Oh," I said. When we got home he told my mother that Rizzo in the movie reminded him of her. You do the math. I was permanently scarred. I was 6. lol

Shout out to the Playbill article that credited Marc Platt as (Ben's Father), I laughed out loud."
"I enjoyed the trailer other than the main character and subject of the movie." lol, Anyhoo, my thoughts are similar to others re: ben's appearance. I think that he could have come off as a far more sympathetic character if they had cast an actual teenager., i'm curious how this show's messaging will translate to the screen since on stage it was problematic.
Woah. He looks CREEPY!! Otherwise it looks fine. I’ve never been a huge fan of his or the show, but i love me some Amy Adams! But yeah, I find him hard to look at... but hope it pays off for him and his family and all their money.

To be fair to Ben, I have18-year-old students who look like they're 30, just as I have other 18 y/o students who look like they're 14. It's a very weird age.
While I do think he looks too old to play a high school student, I think the bigger problem is that they made him look like a teenager from an SNL skit.
I love the coming-of-age tone they gave the trailer. I hope the movie is faithful to it, instead of it just being a marketing gimmick. It's a change that could make for some new interesting material. The director did Perks of being a wallflower, wich is an excellent coming-of-age movie.
Ben's hair aside, I think the movie looks beautiful and I can't wait for it!
