Bravesir, I doubt that they'd hire Paris Hilton for this.
I think that Jennifer Hudson looks perfect and wouldn't have to lose weight for this role. And she is waaay bigger than Anika Noni Rose, I think. Rose has a Tony, but Jen has an Oscar, which is a bigger recognition(unfortunatly)

I hate to be PC here, but why are Amneris and Radames always White people? Every time I see a professional production photo of either the musical or opera I'm baffeled. And I mean, I see REALLY White people (like blonde and fair-skinned) playing those two roles. Can we at least get a dark wig? It's soooo weird, and I'm dying to know what the deal is with that. Is there some kind of protocol that I don't know about? Two Super White main characters per 1 Black one (yes, I'm dead serious...laughing...but still serious).
I'm mildly disturbed to see people suggesting Jessica Simpson. A dumb blonde...EGYPTIAN?? Is the kind of Ethiopia played by a White person too? Ooo, I know Rasta's will not like that. LOL.
Generally, I'm NOT fussy about race and ethnicity. But it's hard not to be when a show takes place in a non-fictional location (even if the story itself is fictional). It's not like 'Wicked' where Fiyero is Black in the novel. It's not really important because OZ isn't a real place, and his ethnicity isn't a major plot factor, so there is a lot of flexibility. But Egypt and Ethiopia are real places, and people from those places are generally olive, tan, brown, or black. It's just bizzare when I see someone who is obviously a total WASP being portrayed as a North African. Not annoying. Just...weird.

Now, this maybe just because I have seen what Adam can do with a Movie/Musical...like with RENT.
[Granted, he has a pretty good director! Like Chris Colmbus!]
Anyhoo, I would like to see Adam reprise his role as Radames.
I don't know about Aida. Maybe...someone like Nikki Blonksy. Someone new...fresh. [Note: I didn't say Nikki Blonksy could play the role. She's too white and a bit too big.I just said someone LIKE her.]
People forget that Amneris eventually has a very touching, emotional number when her world falls apart, she's not all fluff. That's why Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton would never work in the film, they have the acting range of a parrot. They need to get a real actress of the likes of Hathaway, Lindsay Lohan (girl has her issues but she at least knows how to act), Rosario Dawson, and Emily Blunt (inspired casting). Does anyone really think that Adam Pascal is a good actor? A good screen actor??? Did we watch the same RENT movie? Anyways, for Radames James Marsden would indeed be great. I'm all for Anika Noni Rose as Aida.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I think Scarlett Johannson would be a perfect Amneris She can sing, she is very sexy, but she also has a sweet, dry sense of humor that I think would work for the character very well I would cast her in an instant :)
Anyone else, I dont really care, lets just not bring in the OBC, sorry...I mean Adam Pascal? He was terrible in the RENT movie, I certainly cant imagine him in an even more dramatic and bigger film than RENT...

Aida: Jenifer Hudson Radames: James Marsden Amneris: Christina Aguilera might work if she can act, I would love to see Anne Hathaway though! Zoser: David Bowie would be effing amazing Mareb: Have to say Corbin Blu

That made me laugh out loud... Jim V. passing for a straight soldier (Egyptian aside) is just too funny to imagine. "
That comment reminds me of when i saw Chayenne Jackson as Radames, he was so gay it wasnt funny.
as for the race issue, i think they just use that in she show (similar to how they do it in Lion King, main lions are always black, scar is always white) as a kind of visual antagonism to differenciate between numians and eqyptians and feen on our own preconceptions of race relations. But that is usually a stage thing, I think it would work just as well on film if everyone was black.

Why is everyone picking blonde blue eyed Amneris. I get that sherie rene scott and adam pascal played the parts on broadwat but like Midoria said it is sooo weird. Has anyone here seen someone from egypt? I am the first to praise color blind casting, but this entire script is about the African people. Not the nordic people.

That's how I always took it. It really didn't matter, but it was the fact that you could *see* what made them so different.
I still can't see this movie working, but I've been proved wrong before.
I'd actually like to see James Marsden try the role. And as much as I love Paris, keep her far far away from the movie.
NYC4Life, you do have a good point. The white and black roles could have easily been just who was originally cast. It was also Disney, though, and unlike the opera, the roles could have been deliberately done that way for a younger audience....like the Lion King. Subliminal messaging, anyone?
aida- someone who's a name, jennifer hudson would be a nice fit amneris- lindsay lohan (i know she has issues but she's good, and hey she's not blonde) radames- someone whos a name, the movie will need it mereb- corbin bleu (ok this is one character who can not be white, i mean, he grew up next door to aida) nehebka- tracie thoms
I agree that Lindsay is talented, but I think she might appear too young for the part.
