It's still dishonest. (No matter who does it.)
"That sounds desperately dishonest."
That's because it is. Just despicable.

I still want to see this during my upcoming trip. But I'm not paying more than $40. If that price was good enough for Producers during previews, it's good enough now.
Anastasia was running ads quoting people from Facebook. This is pretty standard stuff.

Obviously discussing Ken Davenport's work, tactics, and strategies as a producer and writer are certainly well within the bounds of the discussion, but we've crossed that line a few times in this thread in the last few hours. So, please keep the conversation going about the show and anything professionally tangential to that, but the personal stuff should be saved for PMs or another venue.
Disagree. Not only is Kenny the producer, he is also the book writer, so any discussion of Mr. Kenny D is valid here.
IMO, any producer bringing a show like this to Broadway is on an ego trip. He knew the show was bad and he brought it in anyway. I can't imagine that he actually put his own money into this disaster. He probably raised his cash by promising naive investors (the people of New Jersey) swag and free tickets to an "OPENING"!
As a producer KD now has another credit to his producing belt and will suffer no financial loss of his own. Remember the Trump casinos that went bankrupt and closed leaving thousands of employees unpaid and out of work? Trump suffered no financial loss. Davenport is no different.

Sorry, using a pull quote from a five year old review of a completely different production as if it was for THIS production is shoddy, disingenuous, and disgusting. And yes, desperate. Disingenuous, disgusting, and desperate - the three Ds, which all add up to Davenport.
So I walked by the theatre at least twice today and it was DEAD! Yes, I know Wednesday is their dark day, but not one sign added having a quote from ANY source! Even if Ken made one up...it's not there. The box office was empty, no traffic at all. But you would NEVER know a show had just opened there. It was weird. Even the flops put stuff out after the opened. Did Ken give up already?
LOL. Tweet is still up, even if the post about it here isn't.

It seems that Davenport is attempting to match the dishonesty of David Merrick at his worst, but not his imagination.

Ok, some of the reactions on this thread are definitely too excessive... even for this forum’s standards...
Trying to pull a positive quote from a review is dishonest and despicable? How do you expect them to try to sell the show? “Getting the Band Back Together: there’s nothing original in this original musical”??
It’s not like they made a big deal announcing they would have 300 tickets available at an affordable price for every show, only to quietly remove that option later in the run... that one for me is actually dishonest and despicable... yet no one is making a fuss about it...
"Trying to pull a positive quote from a review is dishonest and despicable?"
The quote in question was from a review of a version and production of the show from three years ago. It does not pertain to a current review of the current production.
I would call that dishonest, but others may have different ideas of right and wrong.
^^^ Which also wasn't written by one of the regular NYT theater critics, but a stringer from NJ.
It's a disingenuous way to deflect from the actual NYTimes review while still cash in on the weight of that paper, absolutely.
Typically, when other productions use quotes from older reviews of other productions, it is about established material and attesting to its quality (I believe Rudin used some older quotes about Hello Dolly as a musical prior to reviews, for instance).
This is a new musical and the review is outdated and, in fact, superseded by a later review.

Most shows manipulate the quotes in one way or another. They are not the first, nor will be the last to mislead.

NOT what people are annoyed with AT ALL.

While I don't know what show you are referring to, a change in policy/offer is not dishonest or despicable.

Thank you, Kad.
Anyone else see this? Been up for 24 hours.

...on-the-fence?
Also, nice of Ken to include his name in the selected paragraphs from 4 of the 5 reviews but no mention of the composer/lyricist or director.

They had to pay extra for that.

one of the rare times i left a show at intermission. This musical is very much musical theater for the MAGA era, lowest common denominator plot, gays and minorities are punchlines, women are nothing more then prizes to be won, and poor Marilu Henner, passing out rice crispies during the intermission, what even is that, let the women takew her intermission break.

Of course when he “puts it back up” on didhelikeit it’s, once again, not featured on the homepage and can only be found in the crowded, micro-text list at the bottom. Absolutely pathetic.
