Maleah Joi Moon does not perform at Wednesday matinees. She will not perform on Sunday evening - August 25, Sunday evening September 1 and all performances September 17 -22"

Riiiiight, because no one EVER calls out the day of the show.

It was my second time seeing the show and was looking forward to seeing Maleah Joi Moon again, but Jane Milan was honestly incredible--she had her own take on the character and vocals were top notch. It was her first time covering the role on Broadway, so I suspect she will only get better. I enjoyed the show just as much the second time--Maleah is a star for sure, but never underestimate an understudy."
We VERY much agree. " Never underestimate an understudy. " We saw Jade Milan too, the second time. We received discounted tickets a few weeks back through work and decided to take a second look having not enjoyed it much the 1st time.
Jade's take made us enjoy the show more. The show is still the show and overhyped and over-nominated. The music and vocals are still great. The plot is obvious and basic. The story and dance are not on the same level. Jane's performance exceeded Moon. The role or performance does still not deliver the depth of O'Hara in Wine & Roses but Milan gives a better take. Never underestimate the understudy is right.
Im here now, intermission. That police brutality plot seems to have come out of left field, I guess it’s their attempt to bring drama into this otherwise simple story. Kecia Lewis is definitely the best part so far, enjoyed the opening and Kaleidoscope, I like how you see the woman in the “pit” playing the piano when the actors are faking it on stage. Soshana and Maleah are doing a nice job too.
And it’s also legal to have sex with a consenting 17 year old, so arresting him was also bizarre, it all felt shoehorned. Why was she even pursuing this guy who had no interest in her, it’s kind of bewildering. All of these little plots lacked depth except for obviously the mother daughter story, which came together so wonderfully at the end during “No One.” They didn’t show her becoming a star at the end or starting her career. That story didn’t justify a big broadway musical. It’s sweet but, why? I think it’s actually Michael Greif’s best work since Dear Evan Hansen. I also really liked the Tom Kitt orchestrations, they sounded great, and also how the band was on the moveable platform things. It didn’t feel like a jukebox musical to me which is a good thing. I had never heard of most of the songs before, the leading lady didn’t sing the more popular ones except I guess Empire State of mind. She was also giving me more Rihanna vibes, even the way she looks and was dressed. Alicia Keys is a regal classy lady, but Maleah looked like she was shaking her a$$ and smoking her weed Also, my a$$ was in physical pain sitting after a while. I don’t remember ever feeling that way in there before.
Broadway Flash, I'm impressed with your gift for trolling lol. This is Olympic level 👏👏👏👏. Alicia Keys has stated in several interviews that this story is LOOSELY based off of her life. Hell's Kitchen is not a bio-musical like MJ, Beautiful, Tina, Motown, The Cher Show, etc.
"I had never heard of most of the songs before, the leading lady didn’t sing the more popular ones except I guess Empire State of mind." The songs might not be fimilar to you but they are popular. "No One" is certified Diamond (that doesn't happen often). "Unthinkable" is certified 3x Platinum. "You Don't Know My Name" won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 2004. I'm not going to list the accolades for the rest of the songs in the show but they also are well known by those who regularly listen to R&B.
"Alicia Keys is a regal classy lady, but Maleah looked like she was shaking her a$$ and smoking her weed" is the most problematic statement of them all. Wow...just wow! If you look at any picture of Alicia Keys from the 90s the Ali character dresses exactly like her. How does someone look like they are shaking their a$$ and smoking their weed?!?! Top level trolling hahahaha
Flash is exhausting, they need to get a life and move on from trolling Broadway World. They have nothing insightful or intelligent to say, just endless blather.

I don't usually see jukebox musicals, but I grew up with Alicia Keys' music and my friend really wanted to see it. Normally, I pick what shows to see and she goes along with it.
The understudy, Gianna Harris, was on and we didn't mind much. However, I did NOT like the beginning where she was acting like a brat and didn't really buy her acting like a spoiled teenager. Probably because I'm old and hate teenagers. However, our ole girl Shoshana saved the day and out of nowhere, I started crying when Miss Kecia Lewis started singing. This was really a surprising emotional roller coaster for me and I was really touched by the mother-daughter story arc. Ending up loving it at the end. The Bean and Kecia were really the highlights, but also impressed with the supporting cast. Specially Jackie Leon...she should be given a shot a lead understudy/alternate. I thought she sang and danced better than Gianna.
Shoshana Bean only has 60 performances left, per her instagram story.

So I'll guess and say they didn't offer Donna the role full-time. And also, it's very salty for Donna to post that. Guessing she'll be leaving shortly.
