Umm, South Pacific closed eight years go...
Did you maybe mean Carousel, or My Fair Lady? Personally, if you were looking to get tickets to either show, I would wholeheartedly suggest My Fair Lady; great production, an outstanding cast, and an absolutely immaculate world created on the stage of the Vivian Beaumont!

This is among the hardest I've laughed after opening a thread ever.
I'll sell you my tickets at half the ticket value.
I saw the recent revival. It was stunning, unfortunately, yes, it closed eight years ago.

No one can get tickets because Scott Rudin is greedy.

Hey, cut some slack here! I worked with a young teacher who just finished a unit on ROMEO AND JULIET and asked me to help him plan a field trip to see WEST SIDE STORY on Broadway. The trouble was, there was no production if it playing at the time. He couldn't understand why it closed.
I let him borrow my video of the film.

HA!
I have tickets for June 31st! Just Venmo me $6,000.
Recently, I overheard two people talking about an upcoming NYC trip, and how they were hoping to see the Broadway show that their friends loved so much: THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.

Just the other day I overheard a couple talking to their friends about how they were planning on buying their daughter tickets to see Vanessa Hudgens on Broadway in Gigi.
Aw...this thread makes me sad.
I think we’ve found our first time traveling board member.
Reminds me of a guy I knew years ago who is obsessed with all things Disney and frequents Broadway shows and never knew there had been Broadway musical adaptions of Disney’s TARZAN and THE LITTLE MERMAID. Ouch!
I do think there's a perception to those who don't frequent Broadway that most shows either run forever or there's a rep system like the Met Opera where shows come back a few times a year. There's a "once a hit always a hit" perception (fueled by things like Cats, Phantom, Les Miz, Lion King, Wicked, or Chorus Line and Rent in their days). I'm sure there are groups of people each day who go to TKTS hoping to see Mamma Mia, Les Miz, or Rent.
Those who don't read the Broadway news sites have NO idea what shows are "hits" and "flops" unless the hit-status of a show is talked about on a national platform (Hamilton) or used in an ad campaign (Kinky Boots and Beautiful using "now in its X year!".

OK, Smart Aleks, has anyone on this board seen the original cast of South Pacific on Broadway?

I wasn't even ALIVE during the original run. That in itself makes me a bit joyous as I know I'm one of the older peeps here.

I started going to the theater in 1963. SOUTH PACIFIC was before then.
SomethingPeculiar is totally right.

I saw the original Broadway run, but Mary Martin had been replaced by Martha Wright. It was the first show I ever saw, and yes, I was very young at the time. I still have a few visual images tucked into my memory bank from the experience. I was taken by my grandmother, and it's the origin of my name on this board.

But see my previous post. You can rest easy, drammamama, knowing that you're not THE oldest. AfterEight has that wrapped up. Actually, that might have been the last show he liked. By the way, don't you think he should change his name to AfterEighty?

When Mr. Roxy shows up, he's the oldest. You can find cave drawings of him in Turkey complaining about the prices of tickets. No foolin'
