I also remember hearing about several small changes in costumes, hair, lighting, effects. I've read most comments in this thread but has anyone (or would anyone like to) make a comment on all of the specific changes? I probably won't make it to see the show on broadway and would love to hear about any changes, no matter how small :)"
A few stray observations based on what I noticed and believe was different:
- When Rapunzel's Prince is supposed to be blind he is wearing a bloody blindfold
- There are sound effects when the Witch waves her staff around
- The Witch has a different outfit for when she is younger - you have probably seen the dress from curtain call videos, but there is also a jumpsuit version she spends much of Act 2 in
- Rapunzel's wig looks better and not so much like a weird yellow egg hat, plus when she was in the tower it wasn't so obvious that the braid was not attached (at least from where I sat)
- At one point in Hello Little Girl the Wolf pulls out a salt shaker and salts Little Red's arm - very Loony Tunes
- Just before the Baker's Wife dies you see the Giant's boots coming toward her
- Cinderella's shoe doesn't fly off when she falls, she takes it off as though it is hurting her. She also has a much better and very sparkly gown for the ball now.
That's all I can remember at the moment that I don't think was mentioned here...

Do you have any insight on how to go about refunds for Seat Geek / Jujamcyn shows? I have tickets to Funny Girl that I want to refund, but I tried to do so directly through Seat Geek and was told my a customer service rep that the tickets were unrefundable. Any information on how better to go about this would be SO helpful!!

Can you go to the box office? I actually saw someone the other day ask for a refund on tickets and just said their friends have Covid and can’t go and the box office processed it for them.
Hello! Sorry to bother you, but I have the exact same conundrum as WiCkEDrOcKS: I'm trying to get a refund/exchange for my Into the Woods ticket that I got via Seat Geek. Any information/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
He did perform. The only person missing was Brian, but we already knew that.
That was an awesome show. I too saw it at City Center and think it improved on the move to Broadway. Everyone just seemed like they were having fun. I think there were a lot of new acting choices that made it more fun. I still love Milky White.

It was simply amazing. I really dont have anything to add that others haven't covered. I'm salty over missing BDJ, but the understudy was terrific. Might manage coming back later in the run just to see Brian.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Jordan Catalano, I am so glad this show made you so happy. I have seen Patina as the Witch at the Hollywood Bowl and thought she didn't bring the acting, so I am glad she's at least solid here. I am so curious to see Brian as the Baker because everyone has said he's such a perfect Baker and you, ITW's hugest fan, said so, too. I also love Gavin and Sara, and I really hope they do give Sara the Tony. I also think Julia is an iconic Little Red and I absolutely must see that new ending to "Hello Little Girl"!
I minded this being stripped down in set and costumes, but your reasoning for why it is, I like.
I am also curious, how was this production not a perfect revival, though?
This is truly one of the best productions of Sondheim's work to date. It might not have everything you'd expect from the show typically, but like many have said, the simplicity works and forces the cast to mine the text to bring the show to life. Sondheim would be very proud.
The opening tonight was on fire, literally it was insanely hot in the St. James between the weather, crowd, and amount of pure energy in the room. Huge ovations throughout the whole night, and for the most part a very well behaved audience outside of a few gasps and oooh's which only added to the fun. Bareilles is even stronger than at Encores, and I do think she'd have a good shot at the Tony if eligible. Julia Lester & Cole Thompson are both growing in these roles so nicely, particularly Julia who is truly on her way to stardom. Jason Forbach was on as The Baker, and my god, he was fantastic. I was honestly bummed to miss Brian, but Jason was truly incredible and had a truly grateful energy that brought even more emotion to the script. Gavin is also even better here, finding more in the text, making bolder choices. The new additions Joshua Henry, Patina Miller, Philippa Soo, Nancy Opel, Alysia Velez, and Aimee Garcia were all wonderful, with Patina and Aimee in particular having big shoes to fill, I feel they both did the roles justice without copying what was done previously. Kennedy Kanagawa is a national treasure, and David Turner, David Patrick Kelly, Brooke Ishibashi, Tanika Gibson, Al Guerzon and Annie Golden fill out an unbelievable ensemble that bring it with every single line of text or song, and fill the beats in between with magic.
My only major complaint is the sound design, they have to crank it up!
I was at opening night and was initially disappointed to see the slip in the playbill about Jason Forbach going on as The Baker. By the end, I was glad to have seen Jason Forbach. He was definitely a highlight and probably paired better with Sara Bareilles than Brian D’Arcy James.
Saw this on Saturday night and fell in love with Jason Forbach. His chemistry with Sara is so good and they are so well matched. He's a bit more neurotic than Brian, which I really enjoyed. Milky's understudy was also fantastic. Just loved every minute of this. So special.
Has anyone heard who will be replacing Gavin during the week of the 24th? Sara had teased some kind of surprise, and Jason Forbach said he would only be in for Gavin during the August dates. (I have tix for 7/24)
Adding to the acclaim for Jason Forbach, caught his debut performance on Saturday. Initially disappointed that BDJ was unable to perform, but Jason immediately won us over and his chemistry with Sara was palpable, made it seem like he has been doing this role full-time. The whole cast was *chef's kiss* perfection.
I have a weird random question for anyone at the opening last night.when I was waiting in line to go in, I was handed an orange wrist band and was told to hold onto it. I never found out what it was for. Nobody asked me about it. I also didn't notice anyone sitting around me who had one either. I mean, I know I wasn't the only person with one. Did anyone here get one and know what it was for?

I believe it was just to show you had your bag prechecked.

If they move this to a different house, I can see this hanging out on Broadway for a while. I imagine the running costs are dirt cheap and there's the opportunity for star casting a lot of the roles in this.

I highly doubt it. I’ve read there are shows waiting in the wings to come into other Broadway houses. Why can’t we be happy a city center show even moved to Broadway and that it had a run? People do realize sometimes shows can just be a limited engagement; right?
