Anyone else think that's a terrible idea? She seems wrong for that role in so many ways. Hoepfully, this never gets beyond the "in talks" stage.
Julia Roberts in talks for Normal Heart film
Terrible terrible terrible awful stupid inane idea. I would really rather see this movie never get made than see Ryan Murphy have his misguided way with it.
Don't remind me. Julia Roberts is all wrong for that role. Please, let Ellen Barkin reprise her role on film. She really gave an extraordinary performance-and she's hardly an unknown.
We all have to remember that the producers have a big say on who gets cast. And as directors, many do have a say on who they work with, but producing the product to make money is what it's all about...so big names are what the producers want (even if they are wrong for the part)...and I can't see anyone saying NO to work with Julia Roberts.

I never was , nor will I ever be a Julia Roberts fan. I think she would be so wrong for this role and I don't believe anyone can surpass Ellen Barkin's amazing performance. She should be given the chance to put her performance on film. That play and performances are so etched in my memory, that I will probaly skip the film version. In my mind, how could they ever improve on that amazing night!
First A:OC, now this. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Please just let Ellen Barkin reprise her role.

oh god. After seeing ellen barkin's electrifying performance, I could not imagine julia roberts in this. and ryan murphy directing? please say it's not so....
So far we have the wrong director, the wrong cast... is Max Bialystock producing?
I will the public will demand to see Lea Michele in this role.
BEST NEWS OF THE YEAR! If there's one thing everyone knows, it's how much I adore that woman.
I have less of an issue with Julia Roberts than I do with Ryan Murphy directing. He should not be allowed anywhere near this show.
Why would they even consider letting Ryan Murphy anywhere near this?
big names are what the producers want (even if they are wrong for the part)
I refuse to believe there is not a big, money-making name who is right for this part. If he thinks Julia Roberts is right for the part, then he has no business directing it. I mean, he has no business directing it anyway, but this just furthers the point.
Chill out, guys.
I've got the inside scoop on this.
These talks are very informal and should be taken with a grain of slut. The rumor is Murphy is more interested in Taraji P. Henson.
Because Eat, Pray, Love grossed over 200 million.
And it was awful. But, apple/orange scales.
Maybe if this was 1992 Ellen Barkin might be seriously considered for the film version. Right now I doubt she's even on Ryan Murphy's radar screen.
If Murphy is intent on casting someone he's already worked with, why not Annette Bening?
I like Julia Roberts...in the right vehicle. However, this certainly isn't it. No way does sweet little Julia Roberts have the chops for a firecracker like Dr. Brockner.
Annette Benning, on the other hand, is a fabulous idea.
It almost doesn't matter who gets cast in the movie, RUNNING WITH SCISSORS had a fantastic ensemble and it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was a mess from beginning to end. EAT PRAY LOVE had terrible reviews and word of mouth and that featured Roberts, James Franco, Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, Richard Jenkins and Billy Crudup, all of them wonderful actors who would make any movie a stand-out...but under Murphy's hands the movie turned out to be a mess.
Yes, Roberts is absolutely wrong for the part (and I think she can be a great dramatic actress, her performance in CLOSER is very underrated) but the root of the problem is Ryan Murphy, with him directing I can't imagine this movie being anything but a big hot mess.
Blanchett would also be fantastic. Or Julianne Moore?
Why is Julia Roberts still a movie star?
How about Jane Lynch?
All good choices, Jordan. Personally, I want to see a younger Emma Brookner. Dr. Laubenstein, on whom the character was based, was in her early thirties when she was pioneering AIDS research. It would be nice to have an actress between the ages of 33-40 play her for once.
Actually I change my mind. I want to see Sigourney Weaver deliver that monologue.
Julianne Moore is actually who came to mind for me - or Laura Linney, even. (Basically I just want it to go to someone who deserves to FINALLY win an Oscar, even though with RM directing the odds of that happening are slim to none no matter what an amazing part it is.)
No Julia Roberts...EVER!
I love the idea of Annette Benning or Laura Linney!
