The art work is so ugly to begin with. I know these are phony. But I hope they go with something totally new. It is downright creepy." Well, others would disagree and say it's a lovely gesture on the part of a Funny Girl fan. Julie Benko herself liked it when I first saw it on Instagram.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

It is ugly. Not that it wasn't a nice gesture. But it is ugly.
Production photos of Julie were taken yesterday so they will be extensively promoting her for her month long August run. I believe the “Don’t Rain on My Parade” number will be the main image used.

I don't think it's ugly. It captures her perfectly.
Once Julie Benko begins her roughly one month run as Fanny, will the status change for the current understudy, Ephie Aardema?

Ephie will remain a Fanny understudy as she is already in the show playing Emma and Mrs. Nadler. Julie was never in the show playing any other role which is why she is a standby. When Lea joins the show, Julie will continue as the standby with Thursday performances assigned to her.

The best thing to come out of this revival is the emergence of Julie Benko as an absolute star. I hope for a very bright future for her in the theatre industry.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
Hey, y’all! I’m the Funny Girl fan who made the Lea and Julie Playbills. Did as best I could with their likenesses, but can’t please ‘em all. Julie appreciated it and thought it was a nice gesture.
It’s quite obvious now the producers are kicking themselves and now realize the show is the star and they could have taken the risk of casting an unknown as the lead and cast big the other roles. The buzz Julie Benko generated when she filled in earned her the attention the producers were seeking for the revival. Giving her the entire month of August then all the Thursday performances plus spending money to have production photos done (there’s more involved than just hiring a photographer) is such a great validation for Benko. Plus, there’s this authentic charismatic humbleness about her person that you can not find yourself not adoring her. If there’s anything positive this revival gave us is discovering Julie Benko.
I hope Julie has a great month! I didn't love the show as a whole but really loved her in the lead role when I saw it. I hope this month helps propel her to more greatness, she's very deserving!

This was Julie's comment on her Instagram where she posted the photos.
I have always been head-over-heels in love with the theatre. That feeling you get sitting in the audience before the curtain rises. The sense of possibility walking out onto an empty stage. Being part of a company. The way it can hold you, whatever you're feeling that day. The way it can lift you. Connect you. Challenge you. Make you discover parts of yourself you never knew existed.
I signed up for this life to be part of the magical community of Showpeople. I’ve spent years treading the boards in the chorus, understudying, doing regional productions. And Broadway? Let me tell you: the size or zip code of a theater is not the prize. The prize is doing the thing itself. Some of my favorite theatrical experiences happened in those tucked-away regional houses. Brief, wondrous moments and then they were gone, only to be remembered by a lucky few. For years, I went to every ECC and EPA I was right for. Waited on those lines to sing my 16 bars, even though the role was probably already cast. And theatre school. So much theatre school! Like all actors, I’ve faced immeasurable rejections. If I had a nickel for every time I didn’t get the gig… Hell, if I had a nickel for every time I couldn’t even get an AUDITION for the gig… But that’s much of the job: patience, self-care, hard work, and optimism while you wait out your dry spell until, hopefully, you book the next one.
So, now that I get to be Fanny Brice on Broadway for 5 weeks and suddenly find myself in this club which includes @beaniefeldstein, Mimi Hines, and the LEGEND @barbrastreisand… To me, this is a moment to celebrate all the folks out there sweating off their lil tuchuses in summer stock for EMC points, or trying to nail down their partner to rehearse for scene study, or filming their gazillionth EPA self-tape wondering if anybody is ever even going to see it… sometimes, all that work aligns in surprising ways, and you get to do the thing you love most in the world on a scale you hadn’t really imagined.
So, please come visit us at @funnygirlbwy! I, for one, will be spending each moment celebrating this grand old LIFE IN THE THE-YAY-TER!

It is ugly. But the original graphics are ugly. A nice gesture and nicely done. But it is ugly because the original is ugly.

Congrats....
What happens if she doesn't sell. Or doesn't that matter - we all now know the name Julie Benko"
I think they will be happy to continue with the attendance they've had lately - 70ish%. If she brings in audiences all the better. They have committed to taking a hit if necessary - no choice really. It's great Julie is getting her shot and come what may it reflects well on her. Might heal some wounds, if there are any.
