I really wish it would be Santino Fontana...

"From a PR standpoint, both Morrison and Weinstein handled the Finding Neverland mess pretty badly."
What was the "Finding Neverland" mess -- and what did Matthew Morrison do to handle that mess badly? I can't recall.
I may alone in this, but I can definitely see Morrison in this and doing fine in the role and box office. Lest we forget, Nicole Scherzinger was a real head-scratcher back in the early days of Sunset Blvd. Her career had basically be stulted by her image as a professional TV judge.
While I doubt Morrison could ever command the ungodly ticket prices that Groff can, I do think there's enough there in his name to keep the show alive and steady. (As for all these past so-called controversies, I defy anyone to expect that the general public would even vaguely remember them, unless they decided to do a keep Google on him.)

I dont know about that, as soon as I saw his name mentioned for this my first thought 'wasnt he cancelled for inappropriate contact on that dance show'. Seemed a surprising choice.
That was my last memory of Matthew Morrison.

I don't think Morrison has the charisma to pull off this role - and he seems too old for it as well. If we are pulling from old Glee cast lists - I think Grant Gustin would be a much better fit. Age-wise he is more appropriate, and I think he would be an interesting choice for this role. Whether he would be a big enough draw is the question.
I also don't think Jeremy Jordan is a big enough draw for this role either - honestly - even though he would do well in it.

I don't know his actual age, but wouldn't he be better playing Darin's father?
I really wonder when they’ll announce. Asked someone I know who’s involved with the show and the topic was changed. Didn’t seem like they knew. Groff only has 3 months left.

Hardly. Groff is 40. Jordan is 41. Fontana is 43. All fairly close in age.
Morrison is 47.
He's not a big name (yet), but I could see Nicholas Barasch being fantastic in this role.

A redheaded Bobby Darin?! I can't see that, but he is a great talent and I hope he's back in something soon.
Would Matt Doyle be OK? Even with his Tony he's not all that well known, but how did he do as Sinatra?
I really think Morrison is the best of all who've been mentioned.
^ I don’t really think the actor has to look like Darin. Groff doesn’t really look like him, IMO. Morrison looks a little more like him, I guess, but I don’t think I’d like to sit through his performance. He’s always come across a bit… corny? But maybe it’s just my mind can no longer unsee his Glee character.

^ I never watched Glee. Well, I saw one or two early episodes and they were more than enough for me. I liked Matt a lot in Light In The Piazza and 10,000 Miles, and I saw him do something successfully slick and nightclub-ish a while back, too. I didn't like him all that much in South Pacific, but I didn't like his replacement, either. I blame that more on Sher needing to turn Cable into the Ugly American, his one wrong move in that otherwise excellent revival.
But remembering Matt from his younger days, I'd love to see him back on Broadway.
Deux Moi posted that Joe Jonas is coming to Broadway, and I think he’d be good. Right age and charismatic.

Joe Jonas actually sounds like a better fit. I've never heard him sing standards - but if he can - it would likely be a decent choice.

or another Billy Flynn stunt cast...
Jordan isn't an obvious choice, but does tour with his own rock band and thus this sort of presentational turf isn't alien to him. Yet I agree: will he sell tickets? The show is a unique synergy of specific performer, who nursed the project, and song catalog. It needs a winning personality who can morph before an audience's eyes, with a pop singer's voice and a hipster sophistication. (Morrison seems closer to me than Jordan on this point).
Listen to the (brilliant) Groff cover of "Mack the Knife." To nail this show, that number has to have an effortless capture of that breezy mid-century variety show style. I grew up listening to Darin and watching him on TV, and marvel at how successfully Groff inhabits him. It's not as easy as he makes it look.

Jonsthan Groff is a Broadway star who has done some low level (but critically acclaimed) TV shows. Tourists mostly don't know Grooff, and also don't care about someone's "cringe" reputation and would only care about a star of a TV show that was as big as Glee. Morrison would not draw the locals like Groff, but as the show fades into tourist fodder, he'd be just fine.

Groff was also the voice of "Kristoff" in the Frozen movies, so he got some added notoriety from them. I agree I don't think tourist know or care about Morrison's "cringe" reputation. He is a recognizable name from TV and that would help with tourists. That being said, once Groff leaves the show will struggle to survive IMO.

This would be the ideal financial casting if this is true. Not as big a star as his brother, so wouldn't mind being a replacement. Yet famous enough to still draw big crowds.
And maybe he can act, unlike his more famous brother?
Joe Jonas is a no brainer. Their group musical touring demand has declined but their fans (and the GP) will pay to see him perform in a more intimate setting.
About twelve years ago, I saw him perform while promoting his debut solo album. A pretty decent voice…among other things.

I think Matthew Morrison is unquestionably talented, but at times his performances can feel a bit overeager, which can be uncomfortable to watch. I felt this during the Tony Awards "Hairspray" number, where it came across as just a little too much and again in his later Tony performance when "Glee" was at its peak. If he can rein in that impulse and let the material breathe, he could be quite effective in "Just in Time."
Obviously nothing confirmed via press release yet, but Joe Jonas seems to check all the boxes for this — charming, hard-working, and knowledgeable + somewhat malleable in the music world. Bonus that he grew up in the NY-NJ contingent and his live singing voice is undeniably improved (judging by this year's North American tour leg with his Brothers).
Now, if Joe could somehow get Jack Lawless to sub for the drum chair if he crosses the Ts and dots the Is... (Jared Schonig will apparently be working on THE LOST BOYS in 2026.)
Would Joe Jones even sell tickets? And he doesn't seem to have Bobby Darren's style. Jones brother don't seem all the relevant these days.
