No one's stomping on you. You're allowed to be disappointed. But when you say things like "disgraceful" or "shameful", it's a bit over-the-top.

every year ... the same language and the same disagreements ... just with different performers
at least it all is consistent i guess
I always find comments dismissive of people caring about art or awards a bit silly - I would reply with the following points:
* It's not like anyone is suggesting this news should be frontpage news on CNN next to Ukraine, COVID or abortion laws. It's just a bunch of theatre fans on a forum chatting amongst themselves about something they care about. This is one of the few places where I think it SHOULD be ok for us to express upset/disappointment over theatre awards!!
* If we don't care about anything except what 'really matters' suddenly the world is a much more boring and uninteresting place
* I would guess that while we like to be dramatic no one is actually as upset as it might seem - ok we might be mildly disappointed and annoyed but trust me we will be fine. Do you honestly think in real life I am shouting KATRINA WAS ROBBED and weeping on the floor holding hands in my face screaming NOOOOOOO. (I will answer it just in case: I am not).
Will I still be speaking about this with other theatre fans in 10 years time as I do now about Bernadette in Follies? Yes probably though hehe.

This is the answer. People here were also very critical of her in the beginning of the run. Anyone confused can go reference those many pages on the Company thread.
I do love Katrina and am sad.

Overturning Roe v Wade is "disgraceful". The voters having a different opinion than you is not."
It's all relative, though. We don't have a finite capacity for things; we can care about two separate issues passionately while realizing one has a larger impact on the world.

Once again, no one is saying you can't be disappointed by it. I'm disappointed by some. But they're not "disgraceful". They're not "shameful". It's just a matter of different opinions between audience members.
There are actual disgraceful and shameful things happening in the world. A Tony snub isn't one of them.

This is a Broadway chat board. In this thread, people chat about their opinions of TONY award nominations. It's allowed. Stop being a bully.

Let's just fix it by taking out Sutton and putting in Nikki Renée Daniels. That solves everyones problems.
Yes, I know Nikki couldn't be nominated. But her run in as Bobbie showed that she should have been in it from the get go. Nikki had all the emotional breadth that Katrina (supposedly) had and SHE CAN FREAKING SING IT TOO.

Oh come on. I clearly meant disgraceful in the minor context of Tony nominations, not the history of the world. Geez. Didn't think that needed to actually be said but of course the pedantic people on this board will take it and run.

I'm with you...I totally understand being disappointed when your fave gets snubbed, but acting like it's some kind of shameful conspiracy that will damage the Tony's reputation is...certainly a choice.
Also- I saw the show back in December specifically for Katrina (I loved her in Band's Visit), and it was a VERY weak performance. I'm very happy to hear she has improved, but if voters were basing their nominations on what I saw a few months ago, I agree that it certainly was not a Tony-worthy performance.
I haven’t felt this way since Bernadette was snubbed for Follies, another performance I was emotionally connected to.
Also, I’m sure Katrina is happy with the Tony she already has. She seems like a humble and hardworking actress, not in it for awards. Still, I can’t help but be disappointed for her.

Oh come on… I generally like Katrina but she couldn’t sing the role and she made strange and underwhelming acting choices. She didn’t do it for me at all and I’m glad that Tony voters are sending the message that we still want our lead actresses in a musical to have great voices (sorry Beanie and Katrina).

Agree with every word. I've never connected to a performance like this.

This only reiterates why Katrina wasn't nominated... she can't sing the role. It's too breathy and putting emotion on the word instead of the note.
Lenk's omission is egregious and unforgivable. She gave one of the best performances I have ever seen in my entire life.

agreed
Katrina is one of the nicest and most humble actresses I've every talked to (ofc only at the stage door after a TBV performance). She is so shy (in a good way, maybe there's a more proper word to use here?) and down to earth.
As for her performance in Company, I've seen the production 8 times now (Katrina was in 7 of them), her performance has evolved so much. When I saw it last week, she gave the best performance among all the 7 times I've seen the show with her in.
I was busy being so flummoxed by the love that Paradise Square received that I totally didn't even notice this snub. What were the nominators smoking?

Not sure you're allowed to police peoples' "over the top" opinions with a post like this.
If your argument that someone was robbed of a Tony nomination includes that they improved over the course of the run, you’re kind of showing why the person didn’t get nominated. Katrina is up against people who were ready and delivering on opening. She couldn’t really sing the role and was ice cold in a role that requires charisma and warmth. And even though admittedly the videos of her singing recently show improvement, it illicit more of an “oh I’m happy she’s getting better, good for her” emotion in me than anything else. She still isn’t singing well enough for me to not be concerned about how she sounds, or acting well enough for me to forget about it altogether.
She didn’t deserve it this time! She will for something else. Looking forward to whatever that next thing is for her.

LOL!
This thread is hilarious. The right choices were nominated, babes.
No one was robbed...except maybe Kimber Sprawl and Laurence Fishburne. Now those were EXTRAORDINARY performances that deserve some recognition.
Kimber not being nominated really is a damn shame.

Art really is subjective because while we could debate her singing voice all day, I personally loved her acting choices. They were interesting and unexpected, when they could otherwise be typical.
I would have loved to see Nikki play the part, too.
